It’s Monday, So That Means

Doom!

The yield on Spanish government 10-year bonds hit a new euro-era record of 7.5pc on Monday on fears that one of the eurozone’s biggest economies might need a full-blown sovereign bailout.

The FTSE 100 fell 1.5pc to 5566 points at the open and was trading 1.6pc down at 9.47am. Spain’s Ibex tumbled 4.5pc, Italy’s MIB dropped 3.3pc, France’s CAC-40 fell 1.8pc and Germany’s DAX slid 1.5pc.

In Asia, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped 2.8pc, while Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 shed 1.9pc, Australia’s ASX Sydney slipped 1.7pc, South Korea’s Kospi lost 1.8pc and China’s Shanghai Composite slid 1.3pc.

Markets were spooked by reports that Murcia became the second indebted Spanish region after Valencia to ask the central government for financial support, while officials in Madrid warned that the economy would likely contract through 2013.

Right now the Dow is due 150 lower, “Liebor” is hopefully leading to arrests, and the Chinese, well, it should come to no surprise to anyone that they just make shit up.

But more importantly I am completely exhausted after a long (but enjoyable) weekend and I’m happy to be back in the Salt Mines and I ask that you go do that voodoo that you do so welllllllll

Sarah Palin VINDICATED: How Frustrating for the AP

…to find “its analysis of the information” ends up only to “illustrate what Palin has said all along” concerning why she resigned as Governor of Alaska.

Stupid, conniving bastards.

Of course, The Hill buries THAT VINDICATION in an article ostensibly about Todd and Sarah’s brush with divorce.

Stupid, prevaricating, surreptitious bastards.

Palin said her divorce was ‘when,’ not ‘if’

Sarah Palin, in 2007, indicated she was contemplating a divorce.

In a Sept. 26, 2007, email obtained by The Associated Press, Palin wrote to an aide and her husband, Todd Palin: “So speaking of. .. If we, er, when we get a divorce, does that quell ‘conflict of interest’ accusations about BP?”…

…In its analysis of the information, the AP writes:

“The emails, most from Palin’s final 10 months in office, illustrate what Palin has said all along: The intense scrutiny of her family and work was a financial and emotional drain that forced her to step down as governor.

In several of the emails, Palin complained about the financial toll on her family and the state of Alaska since she became John McCain’s 2008 running mate.

She noted she had been the target of “many frivolous suits and charges since the DAY I became VP candidate. I can’t afford this job.”

Other tidbits from the document release:

— In a March 19, 2009, email to aides Palin complained that the more than 150 Freedom of Information Act requests had cost Alaska more than $1 million, adding, “[A]nd who knows what all the bogus ethics charges have cost the state.”

She was angry at having to pay for her own defense, which was about $500,000 at that point, saying Todd had to go back to work on the North Slope because of it:

We’ve all had to pay for our OWN legal defense in this political bloodsport — it’s horrendous — why do you think Todd is on the slope today? I am paying to defend in my capacity as GOVERNOR — actions taken in my official position. This is unheard of anywhere else.

I would not begrudge that magnificent woman a single, honest dime she’s made, nor one ferocious comment coming from her mouth since.

The lifetime of woundings caused her and her family by the animals of the press and the Liberal Left, not to mention those in the “proper” Republican community who don’t have the balls to recognize what a treasure she is and work WITH her, can never really be assuaged.

Horror In Colorado

Sometimes you just say what the hell?

(CNN) — At least 14 people were killed and 50 wounded when a gunman opened fire during an early Friday morning screening of the new Batman movie at an Aurora, Colorado, theater, Police Chief Dan Oates told reporters.

The heavily armed suspect, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was apprehended by police in a rear parking lot of the theater, Frank Fania, a police spokesman told CNN. The identity of the suspect has not immediately been released.

“He did not resist. He did not put up a fight,” Fania said. Police seized a rifle and a handgun from the suspect, and another gun was found in the theater, he said.

Obama changes his message on self-made businesses

President Obama, who was roundly criticized for saying entrepreneurs don’t build businesses on their own, changed his tune Thursday night in Florida.

“I was saying the other day, we take pride in individual initiative and … we don’t like handouts,” Mr. Obama told supporters in West Palm Beach. “We don’t expect government to solve every problem and we don’t think the government should help people who don’t want to even help themselves.”

Speaking of “Lying Ears”

…Ann Romney did NOT say “YOU people”.

From ABC News:

…Our ruling after reviewing the original audio is that she did not include the “you.”

Bad day to be a liberal desperate for a break.

“This Is NOT the Business You Didn’t Build”

And don’t believe your lying ears. Or that Mitt Romney guy.

Obama’s Not Exactly a Hometown Hero

to some Chicagoans, eh?

Whe Else, Mr. President?

When President Barack Obama hauled off and slapped American small-business owners in the mouth the other day, I wanted to dream of my father.

But I didn’t have to close my eyes to see my dad. I could do it with my eyes open.

All I had to do was think of the driveway of our home, and my dad’s car gone before dawn, that old white Chrysler with a push-button transmission. It always started, but there was a hole in the floor and his feet got wet in the rain. So he patched it with concrete mix and kept on driving it to the little supermarket he ran with my Uncle George.

He’d return home long after dark, physically and mentally exhausted, take a plate of food, talk with us for a few minutes, then flop in that big chair in front of the TV. Even before his cigarette was out, he’d begin to snore.

The next day he’d wake up and do it again. Day after day, decade after decade. Weekdays and weekends, no vacations, no time to see our games, no money for extras, not even forMcDonald’s. My dad and Uncle George, and my mom and my late Aunt Mary, killing themselves in their small supermarket on the South Side of Chicago.

…One of my earliest memories as a boy at the store was that of the government men coming from City Hall. One was tall and beefy. The other was wiry. They wanted steaks.

We didn’t eat red steaks at home or yellow bananas. We took home the brown bananas and the brown steaks because we couldn’t sell them. But the government men liked the big, red steaks, the fat rib-eyes two to a shrink-wrapped package. You could put 20 or so in a shopping bag.

“Thanks, Greek,” they’d say.

That was government.

I like to think the vast number of Americans still relate to THIS Chicago native’s family experience with “doing that”, as opposed to the current White House denizen’s fanciful, neighborhood organizer-influenced interpretation of “doing that”.

Romney’s Returns

The point has been made before but it needs to keep being made: why the hell is the MSM more concerned with what Romney has done to save and protect the (presumably) millions of his own money as opposed to what Obama has done to waste trillions of our money?

Another Winning Argument From Obama in the Campaign Bomb-Throwing Stakes

Obama Suggests Romney Wouldn’t Take Proper Care of Veterans

Oh, yeah. Yeah, he did. That’s got some real appeal coming from a guy with real mil-cred

In campaign remarks this afternoon in San Antonio, Texas, President Obama made a national security case for a strong economy and suggested that his opponent, Mitt Romney, won’t take proper care of veterans if he’s elected president.

…Then, the president of the United States segued into attacking his opponent, Romney:

“That’s the difference between myself and my opponent: As long as I’m commander in chief we’re going to make sure that our veterans are properly cared for,” Obama said, suggesting that Romney, if he becomes president, won’t take proper care of veterans. “And we have expand our funding and improved how we are working with our veterans. But we’ve got more work to do, and that requires resources. We’re sure not going to spend that money better on tax cuts for me.

I want to make sure that a young man or woman who has served our country, who has fought for us, they shouldn’t have to fight for a job or a roof over their heads when they come home.”

All quiet on the Weasel Front didn’t last long, though. I guess somebody told the Romney campaign that Obama’d run his jibs, because they came back with a pretty good jab:

UPDATE: The Romney campaign responds:

“Under President Obama, Americans have suffered from one of the worst job markets in recorded history – and our nation’s veterans have been among the hardest hit,” Amanda Henneberg, a Romney campaign spokesman, says. “With more than twelve percent of veterans struggling to find work and nearly a million veterans unemployed, the President signed a law that could force nearly a quarter million troops out of the service. It’s clear that we need to do more to grow our economy and ensure that our troops aren’t sent from the front lines to the unemployment lines.”

And SCOOOOORRRRREEEE!!!!

Senate Dems Willing to Let ALL Bush Tax Cuts Go BOOM!

…to make a point to mean, petty Republicans that 1%ers need to PAY MORE, DAMMIT!!!

Sounds like a surefire way to keep that Senate majority to me, so have AT it, Patty, girl!

Democrats open door to letting taxes rise in 2013 to reset debate with GOP

Senate Democrats appear willing to use your paycheck to play political hardball on taxes unless Republicans agree to President Obama’s plan to raise taxes on America’s top earners.

A top Senate Democrat warned Monday that, if Republicans don’t relent, her caucus is willing to let all the Bush-era tax rates expire at the end of the year — in effect threatening to let the country fall off what many in Washington call the “fiscal cliff.”

That cliff is approaching at the start of 2013, when the Bush tax cuts are set to expire and billions of dollars in automatic spending cuts — spawned by last summer’s debt-ceiling debate — are set to take effect. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are hoping to shift around those spending cuts to spare key areas like defense, and to temporarily extend the Bush tax rates for at least some Americans. Some have warned a failure to do so could send the nation back into recession.

But Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., indicated Democrats are willing to let the deadline pass in order to better their negotiating position.

“So if we can’t get a good deal, a balanced deal that calls on the wealthy to pay their fair share, then I will absolutely continue this debate into 2013 rather than lock in a long-term deal this year that throws middle-class families under the bus,” she said in an address Monday afternoon at the Brookings Institution. Murray is head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the campaign arm for Senate Democrats.

Yup. That’s a plan!

ths update: Seems like folks here ’bouts (linked by Instapundit) are starting to take notice of the Democrats’ well reasoned stand…O_o

Look Who’s Holding the Economy Hostage Now

Democrats say they’ll let all the Bush-era tax cuts expire if they can’t raise taxes on the rich. Apparently, economic catastrophe is a reasonable price to pay for class warfare politics.

On Monday, Sen. Patty Murray, who heads the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said that “unless Republicans end their commitment to protecting the rich above all else, our country is going to have to face the consequences of Republican intransigence.”

What she really means is Democratic intransigence.

After all, Republicans have taken the perfectly reasonable position that the last thing you want to do when the economy is barely breathing is raise taxes.

Obama himself once made that argument, at a time when the economy was doing better than it is today. And a few level-headed Senate Democrats agree.

I propose a new Democratic campaign slogan:

Anybody moves, the ECONOMY GETS IT!!!

A Bad Miss

More data showing that Obama’s policies simply do not work

(Reuters) – Retail sales fell for a third straight month in June as demand slumped for everything from cars and electronics to building materials, a sign the economic recovery is flagging.

Retail sales slipped 0.5 percent, the Commerce Department said on Monday.

It was the first time sales had dropped in three consecutive months since late 2008, when the economy was still mired in a deep recession. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected retail sales to rise 0.2 percent.

This is why all you will hear is “BAIN BAIN BAIN” because this Administration’s policies, by their own measuring standards and goals, have in fact made things worse. It’s not politics, it’s not personalities and it sure as shit ain’t racism.

It’s proven failed policy.

The data is thorough and convincing.

Obama: Romney should answer Bain questions

President Barack Obama said Mitt Romney should answer questions about his ties to Bain Capital — and soon — in an interview taped Friday with WJLA.

…when we know what about, say, oh, even something as simple as HIS COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS? Anything he wrote in college?

His real relationship with Bill Ayers? Who paid for his house?

Why he claims executive privilege over the Fast and Furious docs?

There’s any number of questions, ad nauseum, people have been asking since Mystery Man promised to move the Earth and Sky if folks bought his shell game, and he hasn’t addressed a transparent single one of them. To now act as if Romney need answer to a higher call from this lower life form, on charges trumped up by Presidential toadies to begin with staggers the righteous heart.

And causes my teeth to gnash.

CNBC’s Squawk Box Tears Into Paul Krugman Following His ‘Zombies At CNBC’ Blog Post

Thursday morning, the hosts of CNBC’s Squawk Box shot back at Paul Krugman for his blog post trashing the show and its network as perpetuators of “zombie” ideas following a tense appearance of his on the program.

…Later on, co-host Andrew Ross Sorkin asked the trio of guests about Krugman’s critique that their plan was “regressive.” [Alan] Simpson, the co-chair of President Obama’s National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, brushed back with strong words for the Nobel-winning economist:

Paul Krugman is a little hyper. And when this started for me, he said that I never saw a spending cut I didn’t love, or some snide little crack. But I think he needs to rest. He needs some solace. He needs to sit in Sun Valley and someone hold his hand and say, “Poor, poor dear.” He just gave into ranting.

I mean, he’s been to Europe and now New York City, and yet…no solace, no peace, no quiet nestling on accolades for the Nobel laureate?

HAVE THEY NO COMMON DECENCY?!?!?!

Where does one go to be appreciated?

And shut up about my puerco Latin.

Coalition of African-American Pastors President: Obama Taking Black Vote for Granted

He is standing outside the NAACP Convention site, which he’s been attending. Besides a blistering critique, Rev. William Owens asserts, had the NAACP not “pandered” to Obama on accepting same-sex marriage by voting on it under “the cover of darkness” and thrown the measure to the general membership approval, it would have lost handily. He ends with:

“…And I think the president is making a serious mistake taking the black vote for granted. And I think the NAACP is making a serious mistake by pandering to the President and endorsing same-sex marriage.”

Watch the whole interview. Obama should be shaking in his boots after what this righteous gentleman shares with Megyn.

And how he shares it. There IS simply no equivocation in the man.

Scary Charts And Numbers

These are the sorts of things The Krugman wants to expand further

A few scary factoids:

– In the 1960s, there were 18 workers per Medicaid recipient. Today that number is 2.5.

– The number of Americans on disability has risen 19% faster than jobs created during this recovery.

– There are just 1.2 private sector workers per 1 person on welfare or working for government.

– There are now just 1.65 employed persons in private sector per 1 person on welfare assistance.

Go read the rest but for god’s sake open a bottle first.

The Kennedys: Classy As Evuh

I guess Bobby Jr’s eternal flame has gone out

They couldn’t just let Mary Richardson Kennedy rest in peace.

The estranged wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was buried near the Kennedy clan’s Hyannis Port compound over the objections of her siblings, was dug up last week and moved to a remote part of St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

Instead of spending eternity buried near Camelot members Eunice and Sargent Shriver — RFK Jr.’s aunt and uncle — Mary was shunted about 700 feet away to a lonely hilltop on the other end of the cemetery

A class operation, those Camelotians.

I Can’t Answer My Own Question

…which was:

Why did I ask? Because of the insane crap EXPLODING today about Romney’s perfectly acceptable and respectful visit to the NAACP yesterday like THIS:

MSNBC: Romney NAACP speech part of ‘racist’ southern strategy

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Last night on MSNBC, host Lawrence O’Donnell said that Romney’s NAACP speech was part of a Republican ‘southern strategy’ used to appeal to ‘racial and racist voting.’

Speaking to TheGrio.com’s Goldie Taylor, O’Donnell said, “Tell me, Goldie, if I’m being too cynical, to think that the Romney campaign actually went in that room today with the hope of getting booed, at least three times, because they want the video of their candidate being booed by the NAACP to play in certain racist precincts where that will actually help them.”

Taylor agreed with O’Donnell’s assessment, adding Romney appeared “paternalistic” and criticized him for using a “derisive word” like “Obamacare” to describe the President’s Affordable Health Care act.

Another one O’Donnell’s guests, Mark Thompson, said that Romney appeared “culturally ignorant” after referring to an African-American serving in his “kitchen cabinet” when he was governor in Massachusetts.

“To talk about being in the kitchen and not talk about an African-American actually being in your cabinet is really not a good metaphor to use with African-Americans,” he said disapprovingly.

Toure, a MSNBC co-host, questioned Romney’s use of slogan, “if you understand who I truly am in my heart.”

“Isn’t that the kind of thing you hear people say when they’re accused of being racist, and they’re trying to make an apology?” he asked.

I can’t even pick who’s the most hateful Mayor of Crazy Town, because they clearly ALL need a rubber room and in-depth therapy with LOTS of chemicals and hot wires.

And, no, I am NOT apologizing.
