You just know he’s struggling
Last year he famously switched allegiance from Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama during the Democratic nomination process for president. Now, he reveals, he regrets his change of heart. How’s Obama doing? “Dreadfully. I was hopeful. He was the most intelligent person we’ve had in that position for a long time. But he’s inexperienced. He has a total inability to understand military matters. He’s acting as if Afghanistan is the magic talisman: solve that and you solve terrorism.” America should leave Afghanistan, he says. “We’ve failed in every other aspect of our effort of conquering the Middle East or whatever you want to call it.” The “War on Terror” was “made up”, Vidal says. “The whole thing was PR, just like ‘weapons of mass destruction’. It has wrecked the airline business, which my father founded in the 1930s. He’d be cutting his wrists. Now when you fly you’re both scared to death and bored to death, a most disagreeable combination.”
Mind you, it needs to be said that if you have the stomach to read the rest of this piece you’ll discover (if for some odd reason you don’t already know) how totally whacked in the head Gore Vidal is.
It’s almost like reading something by Lyndon Larouche.
What could possibly go wrong?
Venezuela’s President Hugo Chávez and Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi have joined forces to urge the world to redefine “terrorism”.
After a summit last weekend for African and South American leaders on the Venezuelan island of Margarita, the two leaders signed a document rejecting attempts to link terrorism to ”the legitimate struggle of the people for liberty and self-determination”.
While emphasising the importance of attacking terrorism “in all its forms, including state terrorism”, the controversial duo called for an international conference to establish a new definition for the concept of terrorism.
Sounds like a clown convention…clowns who unfortunately cause their citizens endless misery.
Oh, and speaking of clowns:
Mr Chávez earlier also singled out Zimbabwe’s leader, Robert Mugabe, for praise during the summit meeting over the weekend. “I wish to give our moral, spiritual and political support to Mugabe and the people of Zimbabwe,” Mr Chávez said. “They seek to make Mugabe pay for being anti-colonialist.”
Ah yes, wise leader Mugabe, under whose enlightened tutelage Zimbabwe has gone from being the bread basket of Africa to it’s basket case.
Much like how Venezuela is heading.
CNN seems to think Polanski deserves a break too. Just look at the opening paragraph on their story:
(CNN) — The events of a single afternoon when she was 13 years old have haunted Samantha Geimer her entire life. A famous movie director allegedly gave her champagne and had sex with her.
There’s no god damned “allegedly” involved here: he admitted it.
PUT HIS ASS IN JAIL.
…you’ve been had. And the only recourse open…is to clam shut.
Democrats Are Jarred by Drop In Fundraising
…a de facto boycott by many of their wealthiest givers, who have been put off by the party’s harsh rhetoric about big business.
….The vast majority of those declines were accounted for by the absence of large donors who, strategists say, have shut their checkbooks in part because Democrats have heightened their attacks on the conduct of major financial firms and set their sights on rewriting the laws that regulate their behavior.
Any “Joe the Plumber” could have told them that, but I guess there are some lessons in life best learned first-hand. Still…it’s gotta sting.
Going forward, there is mid-term hope that this awakening will produce a seismic Congressional shift (“…The [Dem.] party will have to work furiously to defend at least six Senate seats and as many as 40 in the House, including many snatched from Republicans.“). If ever you needed any impetus distilled to a nutshell for changing course, I’ve got the best reason right here, straight from the
jackass’s horse’s mouth:
…”If they take them back, this is the end of the road for what Barack and I are trying to do,” Vice President Biden said Monday…
Now that’s “hope”.
With all the millions of people this revolution murdered, why is the Empire State building honoring the PRC Revolution?
NEW YORK — New York’s iconic Empire State Building will light up red and yellow Wednesday in honor of the 60th anniversary of communist China.
The Chinese consul, Peng Keyu, and other officials will take part in the lighting ceremony which will bathe the skyscraper in the colors of the People’s Republic until Thursday, Empire State Building representatives said in a statement.
Is this a deal to get them to keep buying our debt?
…concerning the arrest of that pillar of manly artistic sensibility, Roman Polanski. If you’ll remember, he’s the guy who starred in this:
…after Polanski plied her with Champagne and a Quaalude…
The teenager’s [ths: 13 years old] troubling–and contemporaneous–account of her abuse at Polanski’s hands begins with her posing twice for topless photos that the director said were for French Vogue. The girl then told prosecutors how Polanski directed her to, “Take off your underwear” and enter the Jacuzzi, where he photographed her naked. Soon, the director, who was then 43, joined her in the hot tub. He also wasn’t wearing any clothes and, according to Gailey’s testimony, wrapped his hands around the child’s waist.
The girl testified that she left the Jacuzzi and entered a bedroom in Nicholson’s home, where Polanski sat down beside her and kissed the teen, despite her demands that he “keep away.” According to Gailey, Polanski then performed a sex act on her and later “started to have intercourse with me.” At one point, according to Gailey’s testimony, Polanski asked the 13-year-old if she was “on the pill,” and “When did you last have your period?” Polanski then asked her, Gailey recalled, “Would you want me to go in through your back?” before he “put his penis in my butt.” Asked why she did not more forcefully resist Polanski, the teenager told Deputy D.A. Roger Gunson, “Because I was afraid of him.”
In NBC’s piece last night, there’s a quick mention of a “sex crime” in Lester Holt’s intro, right before they cut to the “revered director” who is now “sitting in a Swiss jail”. They distill the revolting, predatory acts in the paragraphs above to:
“…facing extradition to the United States for having sex in 1977 with a thirteen year old girl.”
Is that all? Well, dang! Your average viewer would be experiencing a “well, big deal” moment right about then. A Newsweek film critic explains helpfully that Polanski was always concerned about an arrest possibility…
“…because he’s obviously aware that there seems to be some vendetta against him.”
Aw. The poor persecuted pedophile. OutRAgeous, non? Actually…non.
That’s just the start of the pity party parade. THAT’S what’s OUTRAGEOUS.
Schmaybe because a president shouldn’t go to begin with? Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm? Schmaybe, especially, a Precedent with an imploding economy, a healthcare train wreck, proposed 24/7 schoolyear and, oh yeah! A war he claims still needs more strateegery before he can make a decision.
But, OH NO. When cameras call, he can’t be slow, so it’s up, up, UP and away he goes!
A senior White House adviser says President Barack Obama has decided to travel to Copenhagen to lead the U.S. appeal for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Chicago.
Valerie Jarrett told The Associated Press Monday morning that the president will leave Thursday and will join his wife, Michelle, and others in his administration, in making the pitch. Obama would be the first U.S. president to take on such a direct role in lobbying for an Olympics event.
Try STAYING HOME FOR ONCE.
I remember, it was this “vast right wing conspiracy” that invented that story about you schtupping an intern, tight?
WASHINGTON — Bill Clinton says a vast, right-wing conspiracy that once targeted him is now focusing on President Barack Obama.
The ex-president made the comment in a television interview when he was asked about one of the signature moments of the Monica Lewinsky affair over a decade ago. Back then, first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton used the term “vast, right-wing conspiracy” to describe how her husband’s political enemies were out to destroy his presidency.
Bill Clinton was asked on NBC’s “Meet the Press” whether the conspiracy is still there. He replied: “You bet. Sure it is. It’s not as strong as it was because America has changed demographically. But it’s as virulent as it was.”
I love “MATH”.
Nevada officials unsure of number of jobs created by stimulus aid
…But James Brandmueller, energy program manager for the State Office of Energy, said he knows exactly how many jobs have been created by his agency from the $35 million in stimulus funds that it has received.
“Three,” he said.
Former Vice President Al Gore’s campaign to save the planet from global warming has netted him a Nobel Peace Prize, an Academy Award and now $529 million in taxpayer money.
The federal government has loaned $529 million to Fisker Automotive Inc., a small car company backed by Gore to help build a hybrid sports car in Finland that will sell for about $89,000, the Wall Street Journal reported.
$529 MILLION. Finnish automotive company. Not “finish” as in “done”, FINNISH as in FOURFRICKINTHOUSANDMILES from anything remotely considered United States territory.
Damn near NINETYFRICKINGTHOUSANDBUCKAROOS per IMPORTED vehicle.
Oh, you GOT to be shittin’ me, Democrats.
get through FINISH wiping the bloody tears from my cheeks, I will abuse you some more.
Porcine people’s protector Al Gore remains one of the most despicable biomasses ever belched out upon the face of this earth.
…confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.
Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it “Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold.”
That should be an unemployed [insert occupation]’s last best hope!
UPDATE: Via OB at Ace’s, the Baucus version of:
You Have No Chance to Survive Make Your Time
The offending provision is on Pages 80-81 of the unamended Baucus bill, hidden amid a lot of similar legislative mumbo-jumbo about Medicare payments to doctors. The key sentence: “Beginning in 2015, payment would be reduced by five percent if an aggregation of the physician’s resource use is at or above the 90th percentile of national utilization.” Translated into plain English, it means that in any year in which a particular doctor’s average per-patient Medicare costs are in the top 10 percent in the nation, the feds will cut the doctor’s payments by 5 percent.
What a shock. Tea Partiers get accused of of plotting all types of bubbling violence…and it’s the lefty anarchists who in fact riot (like they always do)
PITTSBURGH – Riot police turned back hundreds of protesters trying to march downtown on the first day of the Group of 20 summit Thursday, arresting nearly 20 people as authorities braced for smaller, scattered protests at dozens of businesses and organizations Friday morning.
Police, in an overwhelming show of force, declared the march illegal almost as soon as it began, firing rubber bullets and canisters of pepper spray and smoke after small bands of anarchists responded to calls to disperse by rolling huge metal trash bins, throwing rocks and breaking windows.
I blame Bush.
Man I love asparagus, especially when it’s grilled. Usually I marinate it in balsamic vinegar and lime juice beforehand, but the other day I saw a recipe involving pig.
What’s not to love?
First you wash and trim the stems
then wrap half a slice of prosciutto around the spear
and schmodge two together using toothpicks
hey, you know what works even better? Use a full slice wrapped around two spears…now we’re talking
then you just pop those babies on the top rack of the grill for the last 5 minutes or so of the steak’s cooking time. There’s no need to season them at all, as the fat renders off and the salty pig goodness gives a great flavor to the asparagus
Life is just better with pig.
“So we can’t shoot until we can see that individual with that weapon…pointed at us.”
Oh, God bless ’em.
…I agree with the sentiment 100%.
…”I am troubled if we are putting our troops at greater risk in order to go to such extremes to avoid Afghan casualties,” said Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, who at a hearing last week urged Pentagon leaders to determine whether new rules of engagement — the classified directives that guide the use of force — are unnecessarily endangering U.S. troops.
It’s a W.A.R. and all the horror that entails. But we already fight a thousand times smarter and cleaner than at any time in history! For God’s sake let them fight it to WIN…or get the flock out of there.
…Collins asked Mullen, in particular, to respond to a letter she received in July from retired Marine Corps 1st Sgt. John Bernard, whose son was serving in the restive southern province of Helmand. In the letter, Bernard criticizes McChrystal’s rules of engagement, calling them “nothing less than disgraceful, immoral and fatal for our Marines, sailors and soldiers on the ground.”
“The Marines and soldiers that are ‘holding’ territories of dubious worth like Now Zad and Golestan without reinforcement, denial of fire-support and refusal to allow them to hunt and kill the very enemy we are there to confront are nothing more than sitting ducks,” Bernard wrote. He denounced “the insanity of the current situation and the suicidal position this administration has placed these warriors in.”
A month after Bernard wrote to Collins, his son, Lance Cpl. Joshua Bernard, was killed by a rocket-propelled grenade when Taliban insurgents ambushed his platoon. Bernard said that in one of his last phone calls from Afghanistan, his son had complained that his unit had been denied supporting fire and that Marines had been wounded.
“They are in between a rock and a hard place, with minimal support and maximum exposure,” Bernard said in a telephone interview. “With 175 guys there and then to be denied fire missions is inexplicable,” he said, describing his son’s company, stationed near the Taliban sanctuary of Now Zad in Helmand. “We’ve hamstrung ourselves in fear of angering a population that hates us anyway.”
Oh, words fail. I would be sick with grief and rage.
Though I pretty much am every night the NewsHour presents pictures of the brave souls who, through their deaths, made the “Honor Roll”. major dad and I stop everything to watch those pictures with names and hometowns scroll by. It’s their due, at the very least ~ our quiet moment and gratitude. And, while I know it’s not possible on this physical plane, I hope somehow in the existential one that the heartbroken mom or dad who sent that picture in knows that we watched and read every name. Every age. Every hometown and every service. And noted every theater where they lost their baby boy or schweet baby girl for us.
But how is it to be born, how is that terrible loss to be reconciled, if you feel that the actions of those responsible for the well being of your Marine or soldier consciously put him in more peril? As a matter of policy, devalued that precious life to appease a culture that values life very little, worthy only as a bargaining chip to their own ends?
I would be crazy with rage. This has to change.

Czech President Vaclav Klaus sharply criticized a U.N. meeting on climate change on Tuesday at which U.S. President Barack Obama was among the top speakers, describing it as propagandistic and undignified.
“It was sad and it was frustrating,” said Klaus, one of the world’s most vocal skeptics on the topic of global warming.
“It’s a propagandistic exercise where 13-year-old girls from some far-away country perform a pre-rehearsed poem,” he said. “It’s simply not dignified.”
