A Saturday Drive

For her birthday Daughter wanted what any red-blooded American gal wants: tickets to a NASCAR race.

Luckily for us, the Dover 200 was today and only a 2 1/2 hour drive.

We parked right outside of turn 4

Said “hello” to The Monster

and found that our seats were right on the Start/Finish line.

Very cool.

And very very loud. It was earsplitting when only a few cars were on the track for the practice laps; I could only imagine what it was going to be like when there were 40.

I found out

When they got the green flag and the 40 of them stomped on it…wow. Thank god we had big honking ear protectors on. The Flip camera was vibrating in my hand. Heh.

Did you ever try to take a picture of something passing you at 140+ mph?

Out of many attempts that was the best I managed.

They put the “Jiffy” in “Lube”

All in all a heck of a lot of fun.

As an aside, on the drive down we saw a few “O’Donnell” posters and no “Coons” ones; the drive back a couple of each.

I was kind of surprised that neither candidate had any sort of presence at all at the track; I know were I running there, especially were I O’Donnell, I would have had folks there handing out literature and selling shirts/bumper stickers, as this was definitely a Tea Party leaning crowd. Seems like one hell of a wasted opportunity to me.

That was a hell of a wreck today with Elliott Sadler and Drew Herring, wasn’t it? I felt that impact while I was sitting in my recliner. Didn’t know you or daughter were go fast, turn left fans, we could have enjoyed some Saturday nights at Wall Stadium. It’s closed again, which is really too bad.

It was one hell of a boom when he hit the wall!

Were those laps even thirty seconds long? I’d get dizzy driving that one.

    Awesome vid Bing!

The biggest track I’ve ever been to was the Clarksville Speedway in Tennessee.

I like The Monster! Maybe he should run for Congress. “THE MONSTER (DE-R)” Has a certain ring to it, no?

(What? Yeah, I just helped a neighbor finish a bottle of wine. After a DELICIOUS dinner of Ceasar’s salad, salmon [blackened AND lemon pepper], scalloped taters, with brownies and ice cream as a chaser. Ooooooooh, I’m in ecstasy…….)

  6. JeffS says:

Of course, The Monster needn’t run with the GOP. He could always go as an Independent.

    “THE MONSTER (DE-GDI)”…..I love it!

(OK, gotta get that wine out of my system. Later!)

Skyler, they were running 25-26 second laps, I think.

    Insane.

I’m in NASCAR central here. I pass the Darlington Speedway almost every weekend and whatever the hell that one up by Charlotte when I go up there. The traffic is horrible when there’s a race.
Oh, and I am very good friends with someone who photographs the drivers and cars in the pit area (official photographer). They tell me all the trash about the drivers. Yes, I am IN THE KNOW with NASCAR. Impressive, eh? HAHA!

re: campaign stuff… had a bit of conversation with a young volunteer handing out Anna Little fliers in my neighborhood on Saturday. I think she was the daughter of the landscaper whose truck was towing the billboard around. Nice patriotic MIDI music coming from the PA system, though it made them sound a little like the ice cream man.

As for the info on the flier – encouraging. I hope she smokes Pallone like a brisket.
