Cairo Spring

Gosh, don’t you just love this New, Modern Society that President Hipster’s speech empowered

Women arrested by the Egyptian police during protests in Cairo’s Tahrir Square were subjected to forced ‘virginity tests’, according to Amnesty International.

Eighteen demonstrators were detained after army officers cleared the square on March 9 at the end of weeks of protest.

Amnesty today said that the women had been beaten, given electric shocks and then subjected to strip searches while being photographed by male soldiers.

They were then given ‘virginity checks’ and threatened with prostitution charges if medics ruled they had had sex, according to the charity.

Remind me again what the billions they get in foreign aid every year is for?

    That would be the
    Tahrir
    Spotlessness
    Ascertainers
who conducted the inspections, I’m assuming?

    BILLIONS wasted on those animals.

Egypt is trying to bring a change to the country. However, ousting of the head of the state will not be sufficient. The country should concentrate more on its own people. I understand their culture is different but things like this are unacceptable anywhere in the world.

“I understand their culture is different” That’s an understatement. I’d say it’s barbaric.

I know how terrible this will sound… but I think that maybe they weren’t colonized well enough by England in the 19th century.

  6. Drang says:

We’re paying them billions in aid to keep the Suez Canal open and keep them from starting a war with Israel.
With Mubarak in charge, we might have been able to use Cairo West airbase facilities in Kinetic Operations (ptui!) against Libya, too. (We almost did when I was there in ’83.)

    Not sayin’ it’s right.

  7. Mr. Bingley says:

Oh, I understand that’s why they say we need to keep shelling out the bucks, Drang.

But given how they fared the last time they tried to start a shooting war with Israel I’m not so sure that should carry so much weight.
