  1. Skyler says:

    That wall looks Jeffersonian.

  2. Mr. Bingley says:

    Indeed it is, Skyler 🙂

  3. I was thinking, as a lapsed Apprentice Brickie, the workers had spent a little too much time at the local pub for lunch.

  4. Mr. Bingley says:

Actually, Winston, when the perennially-in-debt Mr. Jefferson was building the University of Virginia he couldn’t afford to build straight runs of brick walls, as that would require too many bricks. By designing the ‘serpentine’ walls he was able to get the needed strength from walls that were only 1 brick thick.

    Pretty neat for 1819 🙂

  5. Mr. Bingley says:

Here is actually Mr. Jefferson’s design in his own hand and you can see his calculations on the number of bricks he needed.

  6. JeffS says:

    KEWL!!!

  7. tree hugging sister says:

    Says the mechanical engineer…

  8. tree hugging sister says:

I don’t see a hand anywhere in that picture, Bingley.

  9. Yojimbo says:

Just think what Obama University will look like. Since he just towers over Jefferson I’ll bet he does twice the wall with half the brick. He is an expert in working in brick so I excpect big things.

  10. Ave says:

    Bingley took some great shots.

  11. JeffS says:

    I’m a civil engineer, thankyouverymuch.

And, no, that doesn’t mean I write speeches for the Demonrats.

  12. Yojimbo says:

That would be the “unseen hand” you’ve always heard about.

  13. Kathy Kinsley says:

Yanno, I’m of the though that doesn’t much care what it looks like, as long as it works. And it looks like that’s still working fine.

(Keep in mind, though, that I’m one of those who considers ““There, I fixed it.” to be a DIY how-to site…
