Please Always Wear Your Seatbelts

Accidents happen.

Getting ejected from your car on the highway need not.

Of the seven passengers in the Expedition, five of them – two female and three male – were ejected from the vehicle onto the center median as well as the northbound local lanes. The three male ejected passengers are confirmed dead.

None of the five ejected were wearing their seat belts.

That’s the SUV in the center in the Express lanes, and to the right you can see where the people ended up in the Local lanes. You can tell from the photo how foggy it was yesterday, too.

My seat belt routine is such that I now usually buckle before I start the engine so I don’t even have to hear the bell. There are no excuses.

Damn. That’s sad. I know people who walked away from a rollover accident because they had their belts on. I never leave the drive without mine, and won’t drive passengers if they don’t buckle up.

Nasty wreck on a nasty road where the terminally dumb test phyics. Reminds me of that guy some years ago who found a dead dear in the outer southbound lanes, stopped to butcher and got turned into ground meat by traffic.

Hate to say it but “idiots”.

I drive past this point every Tuesday on the way home from the rink, in the wee dark hours. Even then, with little traffic, a lot of people treat it as their own personal Le Mans.

During the daytime, it’s actually dangerous to try to obey the speed limit. The mentality is, if they ain’t doing 75 at least, they ain’t trying.
