And With Obama As President?

I’d be hard pressed to argue with the asshole.

Shutting Off Gulf ‘Very Easy’: Iran Navy Chief

Closing off the Gulf to oil tankers will be “easier than drinking a glass of water” for Iran if the Islamic state deems it necessary, Iran’s top naval commander told the country’s state television on Wednesday.

“Closing the Strait of Hormuz for Iran’s armed forces is really easy … or as Iranians say it will be easier than drinking a glass of water,” Habibollah Sayyari told Iran’s English language Press TV.

Grrrr….

Gee, it would be a shame if something, you know, happened to Iran.

    Boy, we’re all scaredy-like now.

  3. tree hugging sister says:

Everyone of their ships and most of their aircraft would be destroyed before they even knew what hit them our current leadership notwithstanding…

  4. major dad says:

My bad, that’s me not THS on that last comment.

  5. Yojimbo says:

He is correct in the sense that it doesn’t take much. One or two ships, if they are in the right spot. Your not fighting the Iranian military, you are fighting Chinese and Russian anti-ship technology. A good chunk of that is land based and close by, and the Iranian ships will be getting off first and a few may try to get to strategic spots and scuttle. The West does not have a first strike mentality and President Macho would have to consult his political consultants before he pulled the trigger anyway. There are a lot of navies from various countries that rotate into that area and not all of them have our capability.

Not nearly as easy as that clown thinks it is but it is not outside the realm of possibility either. Especially given that they are going to go first and big and the limited success required to do the job.

I have a horrible feeling that we will find out within the next few years.

They are full of s@#t, shutting down the straits would hurt Iranians just as much if not more. I would wager every airstrip and anti-ship radar battery has already been targeted and has a Tomahawk or five waiting to be launched at it.

  7. mojo says:

Sine we’ve technically been at war with Iran for the last 30 years, I’d have no problem with air strikes to zero out their silkworm emplacements and sink their gun-runner boats.

The bigger ships we can let clear the dock, then sink them in the harbor entrances.

    NEXT.

  8. Dave E. says:

Shutting down the Keystone XL pipeline was actually their first choice, but that job has been taken.

  9. Yojimbo says:

You and I wouldn’t sabatoge our own people but these people are crazy messianic nutters. They would probably be willing to suffer a nuke strike if they could destroy Israel. So I wouldn’t bet the ranch on them caring about hurting their own people.

If they are going to strike us, their ships would already be at sea and pushing for places where they could close the Strait if they were sunk or were scuttled.

Yes, all their placements are targeted and would be destroyed-on a first strike. But if they launched first? This president simply isn’t capable of decisive action.
That is our problem, not our military capability. They will probably launch first.

  10. JeffS says:

I wouldn’t put it past the Iranians to attack international oil shipping, but the mere threat is enough to send waves through the oil market. That’s probably their intention, a form of international blackmail.

A few Tomahawks in the right places inside Iran would be a good idea right about now. But not with President Present at the helm.

  11. aelfheld says:

It’s not a question of military capability but rather of political will.

We’re well-supplied with the first, sadly lacking in the second.

  12. major dad says:

I’m not so sure that noboma wouldn’t strike first or quickly if they fired the first shot, depends on how well the Generals and Admirals sell a first strike. Democrats love to use force if no ground troops are involved.

  13. Yojimbo says:

You could be right, they do love their drones complete with collareral damage.

He might authorize a first strike if Israel goes after the nukes. You know they would hit the Strait under those conditions.

Might also depend on the timing. What if this looked like it was going to happen in the electin year. Axelrod might come in and ask him how well that hopey changey stuff will look with 200 bbl for crude. That way he could go on national television and tell everyone how he just saved us from $10 dollar gas and now he was going back to work for the American people.

We might be in for one of those old cold war escalation thingies like the Russians used to do by contesting one of our ships with bow shots or maybe ram one of them. Since China has vast interests in Iran. They might sail a few of their ships in there and then we would have the worst of all possible worlds with a worthless leader here.

  14. Larry says:

They tried to shut it down in ’88, too. Didn’t work then either.
Of course we had a real man as President then…
