My Home State’s in a World of Hurt When the Witch of November Comes Early

Kept up with Bingley via text through the whole thing (he lost power about 1:30 Central) and heard from him first thing this a.m., as he was making coffee. He and NJSue are fine, although the Scrabble beating she administered ~ by flashlight, unsporting, no? ~ was probably ill considered, since HE’S a sore loser and SHE’S trapped in the house with him.

Kcruella is texting she’s fine as well, as are Diptera and Fausta (seen flashing by on Twitter), thank God for all. *DonnaD now, too!

But, oh, New Jersey took a whupping. Christie looks like Hell on Fox and Friends this a.m., but they’re lucky to have him in situ for something this massive.

Unlike NYC, with that bastion of masculine resolve at the helm, Bloombito. Can anyone spell “ANARCHY”?

The thought is terrifying.

Gotta work today. Stay safe. As always:

The headline on every MSM channel this morning is what a great job Obama is doing to provide aid to the victims. Oh, and they also mention that Romney/Ryan would cut funding for FEMA. Yep, this will be worked to death to benefit Obama.

Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job… Is that racist?

  2. tree hugging sister says:

    Oh, BARF. REALLY?

    Wait. What am I saying.

  3. JeffS says:

Good news, all around. Even the whupping Mr. B received.

Fox News reports 7.4 million customers without power across the eastern seaboard. Flood damages can’t be assessed as yet, I imagine, given that the flooding is barely over (I expect it’ll be a day or so for the water to mostly drain out), and dawn wasn’t all that long ago. And then there’s the wind damage.

All this is ONLY for the coastal areas. I hope the inland areas fare better; with a little luck, SANDY may peter out quickly.

Unfortunately, NYC has Aunt Bloomberg in charge, and not Giuliani back in September 2001. Things won’t be pretty there for a while.

  4. Paco says:

Glad to hear that you all successfully weathered the storm. I suspect that Mr. Bingley may have had a run of bad luck in Scrabble; you know, getting stuck with nothing but “u’s” and the odd “l”.

  5. JeffS says:

If you want to monitor where the power outages are, check this out.

  6. JeffS says:

BTW, said map doesn’t cover a large part of the disaster area (NYC is noticeably unmarked), but it does show a decent portion of the region.

That’s what I didn’t have in my emergency supplies–a Scrabble board! I’ll remember for next time, because I am sure there will be a next time. The Philly area’s a mixed bag–either your home has power and your work doesn’t, or the other way around.

  8. Kathy Kinsley says:

@ Kate P – Heh. sounds like where I used to live/work in Florida.

    Monopoly is good too. 😉

  9. Kathy Kinsley says:

P.S. Yeah – and Jersey Shore especially. I grew up in NJ and spent LOTS of time at the shore. Ack. Ugh. OW.

And I’ve a friend in Brooklyn who’s been sending me pics. And 4 work clients on Long Island. Looks like the aftermath of Katrina along the coastal areas. (And I don’t mean N’Awlins – I mean the places that didn’t get mentioned in the news that got positively flattened.)

Hi THS my neice told me this morning that she has a generator on order that should be delivered anytime. She ordered 2 is keeping one. My whole family has power. If Bingley wants the generator I could probably drive it up friday night or saturday morning.Same would go for any other swilling freind without power if Bingley does not need / want. I have a text in to her now to see if it is still coming. Let me know if someone wants it. I will check back on his post as the e-mail addy I use for commenting is full of junk.

We Jersey folk gotta work together on this one.

Holy schamoly, what a lovely offer! How’d you all make out?

I just got home from work (and we’re on central time), so I’ missed this ’til just this second.

Let me text Bingster to dangle the possibility while I wait to hear more from you. Again, what an absolutely handsome thing to do. Hit me up if you’d like at thsister at gmail dot com

  12. Julie says:

After Ike the rule seemed to be that if you bought a generator you got power restored within a few hours of your purchase. It seems to be a lucky talisman, so Power On, Bing!

  13. Kathy Kinsley says:

LOL – that rule worked to some extent after Charley too. Most who had gens had power-up in 2-4 days. We who didn’t were 7-10 days (and very thankful to those who lent us their generators after their ‘rule’ worked).

  14. Bill N says:

    Hi THS,

It is a Kipor IG3000 you can see it at http://www.ohiokipor.com it is being delivered tomorrow. Like I said I could run it north friday eevening or saturday afternoon. I live in burlington county and have to work til 5 on Friday and 1 on Saturday.

  15. tree hugging sister says:

    Bill,

Heard back and Bingley said to tell you thanks SO much for thinking of him, but I guess he and the neighbors are already in the middle of working something out, so he won’t have to lean on your good humor and generosity.

So, if there’s a Swiller who might have some need of a brand-spanking new little electricity maker, feel free leave a note here for Bill with your email.

  16. Teresa says:

So very glad to hear Bingley and company are okay. Hoping he comes through the clean up without too much awfulness.
