Hill staffers must buy health insurance – and they’re not happy about it

WASHINGTON — As President Obama barnstorms the country promoting his health care law, one audience very close to home is growing increasingly anxious about the financial implications of the new coverage: members of Congress and their personal staffs.

Under a wrinkle that dates back to enactment of the law, members of Congress and thousands of their aides are required to get their coverage through new state-based markets known as insurance exchanges.

Naturally, Obama will give them a waiver so they don’t have to live under the law they passed, without reading it or even thinking about the consequences. After all, Obama has no obligation to see that the laws are faithfully executed. None that he’s willing to observe, at any rate.

Both the congresscritters and the staffers, who do what passes for their thinking for them, should be required to submit to this oppressive law, in full, whole hog, totus porcus.
