To determine that he is a traitor would be embarrassing to the Obama admin, so I suspect that he’ll be treated as a hero. In reality, if he is a traitor, he should be sent to same prison as his fellow traitor Manning. There’s a “deep throat” joke there somewhere.
A much smarter, tougher administration would have done this deal solely for the purpose of getting him back and wringing him dry of every last drop of intel he’s worth regarding the enemy. He’ll talk. He wouldn’t be able to help bragging about what he’s learned that America needs to listen to. I’d send someone in to “write a book” with him about it all, and that manuscript would go right to the SecDef. And then “Five Years in Talibet” would get to making little rocks out of big rocks in Leavenworth for the next forty years.
And the guys we let out? They’d be having terrible accidents, perhaps by certain words whispered in the correct ears that they’d been “flipped” by the Great Satan to infiltrate the enemy ranks.
I realize that our spycraft would have to be a whole lot better than it appears to the casual observer, but as an optimist, I rather hope we are still capable of pulling off ops like this in broad daylight without having them suggested by blog commenters.
Bergdahl loves Islam, hates America, puffs up Obama’s “of-course-I-support-the-troops” cred, and is a distraction from multiple scandals. So he is a hero to President Jug Ears.
FWIW, the suspicions about Bergdahl have made NPR and ABC today (as per Instapundit) so perhaps the bad press wil force JugEars to reverse his puffery and stop talking about this guy.
