German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government expelled the top U.S. intelligence official in Berlin over allegations of espionage, escalating a clash that one of her top aides said has caused “grave” political harm.

The U.S. embassy official was asked to leave German soil following the Federal Prosecutor’s investigations into spying practices, the Federal Chancellery said today in an e-mailed statement.

“The government takes these activities very seriously,” the Chancellery said in the statement. A trustful relationship with the U.S. remains “indispensable” to Germany, it said, “but for that, mutual trust and openness are necessary.”

President Obama, when asked to comment, said that “There was not a smidgen of spying” going on, before adding that “Ms. Merkel should really get a plan with unlimited texting.”

    If there was any spying, he would certainly say he didn’t know about it. Just like:

    I didn’t really know Jeremiah Wright.

    I didn’t really know Bill Ayers

    I didn’t really know Tony Rezko

    I didn’t know those weapons were going into Mexico

    I didn’t know Benghazi was a terrorist attack

    I didn’t know we had a spending problem

    I didn’t know the NSA was spying on you

    I didn’t know the Justice Dept was investigating journalists

    I didn’t know that the IRA was targeting political groups

    I didn’t know the web site wasn’t working

    I didn’t know the uncle I lived with

    I didn’t know you would lose your insurance

    I don’t know why you don’t trust me

    This is 100 times worse than the Nixon situation.There were people at the time who said Nixon might use the Marines to
    stop his impeachment. However, he was a historian and submitted
    to history.
    Obama is a traitor and should be impeached and put in jail.But, he’s willing to destroy the US to avoid that.
    Because, he’s never been an American. I say this after supporting him in 2008.
