New York, New York: Axes And Ebola-ing Alleys

So yesterday we had a Presbyterian critically injure a cop with an axe

A hatchet-swinging psycho with Islamic militant leanings turned a busy Queens street corner into a scene of bloody chaos Thursday, chopping a rookie cop in the back of the head and slicing a second officer on the arm before two other officers shot him dead.
In opening fire on the madman, cops accidentally wounded a bystander, authorities said.
Officer Kenneth Healey, 25, had just four months on the job when Zale Thompson, 32, of Queens — a “scholarly” but “weird” recent convert to Islam — fractured the back of the cop’s skull with one swing of a blue-handled hatchet at about 2 p.m. in Jamaica.

…Thompson is being investigated for broader terrorist connections, a law-enforcement source said, adding, “There are suspected terror ties.”
Thompson’s Facebook page includes an passage from the Koran in Arabic script beseeching Allah’s guidance in finding “the straight path” and a black-and-white photograph of a black-scarved militant.
Thompson was a “very educated” proponent of “black power” and a graduate of the College of New Rochelle in Harlem, said a classmate who asked not to be identified by name.

and then we had yet another case of one of our Esteemed Really Smart Medical Professionals showing just how wise these Edjumatcated Folks really are

A Harlem doctor who recently treated patients in Africa tested positive for the deadly disease after he was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Thursday morning with fatigue, nausea and a 103-degree fever.
Dr. Craig Spencer, a 33-year-old Doctors Without Borders volunteer, and his live-in fiancée, Morgan Dixon, 30, were quarantined at Bellevue as investigators retraced the couple’s steps from the six days since the doctor returned from Guinea last Friday, the sources said. The Associated Press reported two of Spencer’s friends were also quarantined but had shown no symptoms of the virus.

…Bassett said Spencer left Guinea on Oct. 14, and returned to the U.S. three days later. He went through mandatory Ebola screening processes upon arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport, officials said.
Spencer was well and asymptomatic until Thursday, but started feeling “tired” on Tuesday, Bassett said.
Still, Bassett went on a three-mile jog on Wednesday. He also went to the High Line and may have stopped at a restaurant on Wednesday before his bowling excursion, Bassett said.
As WCBS 880’s Peter Haskel reported, Bassett said Spencer has also used the subway system. He has ridden on the A Train, the No. 1 Train and the L Train.

See, he’s the Professional. He spent a month in Guinea treating Ebola patients. And he came back here and chilled in the Big City.

Until he got the chills.

I can almost understand Snyderman breaking quarantine. I mean, she never took me as the brightest bulb in the chandelier anyway. But there really is no excuse for the ones who worked with Ebola patients day after day… they know better.

    Le sigh.

I’m thinking that *anyone* entering from any of the afflicted countries should be *immediately* quarantined.

    Or, stop the flights? Nah…

When I see news stories like this I look back at all of the silly, ridiculous plot points and inane, unrealistic character behaviors in pandemic movies and start to realize…

…they aren’t even close to the stupidity of real life people and events.
