Protesters break into U.S. embassy in Serbia
Support for Kosovo independence raised tensions with Balkan nation
A handful of protesters broke into the U.S. embassy in Belgrade on Thursday, cheered on by crowds outside, in a protest at U.S. support for Kosovo’s independence.
Smoke was seen billowing from the building.
The embassy had been closed in anticipation of the demonstration. A spokesman for the State Department said there are no reports of any injuries to Americans, and only security personnel were present. Police were not protecting the building.

Not good. I’m wondering if the Marines are there and what their orders are. Touchy, touchy situation.

Good. Let’s ‘not protect’ their mission here in NY.

The Serbs are throwing a tantrum about losing Kosovo, someone hurt their widdle feewings. Boo effin’ hoo. Time to throw them out of New York, methinks.

And you Americans later ask yourselves why 90% of the world hate you.It is because you think all should be played by your rules. You play worlds policeman, obey international laws and resolutions. The war in Kosovo was because of you and your war industry. You will do everything for the money.
Albanians had all rights in Kosovo.Schools and university’s on their language, but they wanted to create mob and drug country.Their leader is terrorist who killed a lot of innocent people. Albania and Kosovo are leaders in drug industry in Europe.
I think this independence will make a lot of problems in the world and might be a beginning of the WW3.

Sorry, Bojke, but that’s simply ridiculous. The antagonism between the Serbs and Albanians preceded any actions, right or wrong, by the US, and seems to me to be largely religious in nature going back frankly hundreds of years, and especially flaring up again in the early part of the 20th century and sporadically throughout Tito’s rule, and especially after his death. You are correct about the KLA’s leadership and drug trafficking; it is disgusting and nothing we should be associated with. I frankly am not sure we should have gotten involved and clearly there were errors made by the administration in charge at the time; there is a large part of me that would have loved to leave this whole mess for our “betters” in Europe to have cleaned up. But to claim that everything was sunshine and happy bunnies until the US arrived borders on the delusional and ignores the hundreds of years of ethnic and religious strife that that area of the world is rightly known for.

Bojke, don’t foist centuries old hatreds off onto America. As the Bingster noted, everything was not sunshine and happy bunnies in the former Yugoslavia.
The Yugoslavia break up should be handled by the Europeans, given that they would feel the effects of a major civil war first. But, no, us bloody imperialistic Yanks (with full UN support) stepped in to stop genocide and prevent civil war.
You want to blame someone? Blame the Serbs and the Kosovoans for carrying on a centuries old grudge match. Blame the Europeans for not having the balls to handle this on their own, and thus keeping us bloody imperialistic Yanks out of the picture. Blame the United Nations for dorking around with this problem for nearly a decade, letting the wounds fester….and for keeping us bloody imperialistic Yanks in the picture.
And if you fit somewhere in that blame diagram (probably around “Serbs”), feel free to blame yourself as well. It’s past time for you to grow up and shoulder some responsibility, and stop blaming America for your problems.
