Politico has an extraordinary report on Robert Gibbs, the White House Press Secretary, launching a furious broadside against the British press. Here are Gibbs’ sneering and condescending remarks:
“I want to speak generally about some reports I’ve witnessed over the past few years in the British media,” Gibbs said. “In some ways, I’m surprised it filtered down.”
“Let’s just say if I wanted to look up, if I wanted to read a write-up of how Manchester United fared last night in the Champions League Cup, I’d might open up a British newspaper,” he continued. “If I was looking for something that bordered on truthful news, I’m not entirely sure it’d be the first pack of clips I’d pick up.”
Barack’s gonna have to send over a few more dvds and iPods…
Seriously, have you ever seen a more arrogant bunch than those controlling Washington these days?

This is truly frightening. The intelligence we share with the UK, and they share with us, has been in the past quite open. It horrifies me to think that this man now controls whatever secrets the Brits have shared with us.

That’s so retarded it beggars belief. The British press may be bloodthirsty muckrakers without even claims to objectivity, but they come in all political stripes AND live and die in fear of the English law of libel, which puts burden on a DEFENDANT to prove falsehood. The higher “actual malice” standard of NYT v. Sullivan here in the US (and most of the rest of the common-law world) means it’s the American media that’s more likely to publish outright falsehood.
If, for example, Dan Rather’s “fake but accurate” USAF memos had been a British story, it wouldn’t have surprised me for the subject to have sued.
I must admit I enjoyed watching Dan Rather twist in the wind over that BS memo flap.
Well, we obviously can’t expect other nations to hold their media to the same rigorous standards of truthfulness and objectivity we hold ours to…
You know, the Borgias were pretty arrogant, but at least they had a few kills under their belt and were master intriguers. Oh, yeah, and they had experience ruling. Sorry, forgot about that last part.
This bunch is just good at raping people’s wallets and pontificating. Course, that’s simply because the populace is to appathetic to do shit about it.

Sure. Spit on the Brits for giving us a civilization based on rule of law, free speech, and the worth of the common man. In Obama’s world view (which his parrot Gibbs spits out at every opportunity), we should have based our civilization on those paragons of liberty, Germany, Russia, France, Belgium, present day Holland, Kenya and various other oligarchies of Africa and Asia.
BTW, I’d love to see someone with the requisite skillz send out a viral meme of Robert Gibbs as a parrot. He can’t object, it’s his job after all.
