Judge Removed From DeLay’s Criminal Case
…The ruling came after a hearing in which attorneys for the former House Republican leader argued that state District Judge Bob Perkins’ political donations called his impartiality into question. Perkins, a Democrat, has contributed to candidates such as John Kerry and the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org

    Part of this is a problem with how judges get on the bench in Texas, and in many other states: outright competitive partisan election, the same as if they were running for City Council. I’m all for some degree of accountability for the judiciary, but THAT is just plain crazy.
