Mary, Mary, Quite to the Contrary...Part Deux
The Senator continues her Sunday talk show rounds.
Chris Wallace: But senator there were hundreds of buses sitting in that parking lot...we're looking at the picture. There were hundreds of buses sitting in parking lots.Mary Landrieu: That is underwater.
Chris Wallace: It wasn't underwater before the evacua...before the...
Mary Landrieu: Those buses were underwater. Those buses were underwater.
Chris Wallace: They weren't underwater on Saturday. They weren't on Sunday.
All because 'this administration doesn't understand mass trasnportation'.
I couldn't make up stuff this good if I tried.

Oi. Senator Landrieu is competing with Senator Kerry for "Most Ridiculous Member of The Senate"....and it is neck and neck right out of the gate.
That takes serious effort. You have to try and sink that low.

Wow. I'm speechless. That's a special kind of stupid.
Even my 6 year old twins wouldn't continue to spout something that made no sense.

The only thing I liked about her comments were how she went a long way to make it understood that this was an equal opportunity storm. She's a savvy politician and was trying to un-politicize the tragedy while politicizing it.
On a related by different note: I was down on the Mississippi Gulf Coast this weekend doing some relief efforts with some folks from my wife's church.
We went into ground zero ... Waveland, MS. It was pretty amazing. Most of the homes we helped out at (cleaning trees off of homes, out of yards, mainly) stood structurly (sp?) sound. But they got about 4 to 5 feet of flood water from the strom surge. However, just about half a mile south of where we were was completely destroyed. The National Guard had the area blocked off, and they only let us cross briefly to look. It was like a bomb went off. Home were shoved off their blocks, homes were completely flattened. It was rough.
I stayed with my father in law in Biloxi. I was pretty amazed at how well the city faired. At least what I got to see of it. My FILs trailer survived great. He already has power and running water. The local TV station (Channel 13, WLOX) is up and running. According to him, it never went down.
What I didn't get to see were the Gulfport or Biloxi beaches/Hwy 90 -- my old stomping grounds. I was told that it was very rough down there.
My impressions: I did not see a place that was whining about how they were destroyed by a storm. I did not see a people beaten down. I saw a place that was already getting on with getting over the storm. They're only two weeks into recovery and they're a long way toward putting this behind them.
It's still a mess, but everywhere I looked there was some disaster relief site, or agency or the National Guard.
I'm glad I went.
As an aside: THS, if I'd had the time, I would have dropped you a note. I drove through Pensacola both ways. Lots of blue roofs still.

But, but, Cullen, there was BEER there! You should have stopped.
I feel sorry for Mississippi, what with the whole MSM ignoring them and stuff, but then again, they have a governor with an actual BRAIN and a pair, so they'll be a'ight.

(WELL!! Guess we know who's not speaking to WHO, DON'T we!)
The whole damn interview is one rich, target filled environment, but that just was the capper, as far as I'm concerned. "Those buses are underwater" ~ "Well, they weren't!" Oh God, I love it. The only thing I can figure; she was pooped out from a day's worth of keeping the stories straight on talk shows and ran out of gas during this last one. Clinton years run on a deficit, Bush has a surplus? I mean, HUH? Sounds like oxygen deficit.
At BIRTH.

Seriously THS, we left here around 3 a.m. to make it to Gulfport before 10 a.m.
On the way back, Sunday, I was in such a hurry to make it home, before passing out from exhaustion.
I did think of you though, as I hoped to make Hwy 231 as quickly as possible.

3 a.m. Saturday morning, that is.
Posted by: Cullen at September 12, 2005 11:08 AM
"Yes, I thought of you, but only in the sense that I wanted to get as far away as possible"
hee-hee
nicely put!
It's a common reaction, Cullen, really it is.

Go easy on the poor guy! :-) He was doing good works!
But just to rub salt in this wound....I would have stopped or called or something....does that make me a better internet friend? I thought so!
:-P HAHAHAH!

THS, you ought to put up a sign at your house:
"FREE BEER FOR RIGHTWING DEATH BEAST BLOGGERS"
Cullen would then stop by. Heck, Mr. Bingley would come down in 1967 VW bug driven by an ancient hippy chick!

::sniff::
If the only reason anyone would stop by is the Miller Lite hurricane stash guarded by Flamingo storm troopers in the garage, well..don't bother.
::sniff::
At all.
::sniff::
We do just fine here on our isolated little island of Bangla-cola.

Awww, don't cry, THS! Why, I think people would stop by even if you served PBR.

As long as Iowahawk didn't steal it...

You remember the jingle, guys: Shaffer is the one beer to have, when you're having more than one...
