Science at a Higher Level
Pressures Produced When Penguins Pooh -- Calculations on Avian Defaecation-Victor Benno Meyer-Rochow of International University Bremen, Germany and the University of Oulu, Finland; and Jozsef Gal of Loránd Eötvös University, Hungary
Ig Nobel receipients for FLUID DYNAMICS. I believe we (or someone we know) covered the award for...
MEDICINE: Gregg A. Miller of Oak Grove, Missouri, for inventing Neuticles -- artificial replacement testicles for dogs
...but I hadn't seen the entire list of laureates until now. If you have been similarly deprived: voilá.

They get real Nobel Laureates to hand out the prizes, too. I see William Lipscomb handed out the chemistry prize - he's a member of my fraternity and he signed my pledge badge when I met him after a talk he gave at my school.

I THOUGHT that's what they meant! What an absolute hoot. You might want to send in that jar-under-your-bed research project you did, John.

I've got a few er... experiments... yeah, that's right... that shall remian un-documented from my high school days. I maintain that pretty much every male experimental chemist was a closet pyromaniac in high school. Eyebrows, arm hair, who needs 'em?
Did you ever read Pat McManus? In "The Skunk Ladder" he reveals that Crazy Eddie became a Ph.D. in Chemistry, too.

Goodness, I love Patrick McManus. I crack up just thinking about "The Chickenout Narrows." But it's been a dog's age since I read his work.
As for Nobel prizes, apparently their standards are lower than the Grammys. Has anyone nominated Mr. Summers in the biology department?

Given the research topic, the title of this post ought to be "Science at a Higher Pressure".
