First Rule of War
Never give a Marine a can of spray paint and say:
"Camouflage that thing."
All cherished memories, war remembrances and Desert Storm photos © Major Dad, riding with the Wolfpack of HMH-466.
EDITOR'S NOTE: These are two different airplanes. And they brought them home to MCAS Tustin that way. We all thought it was a great tragedy when it had to be stripped off and painted air superiority blue. Major Dad adds:
"Those weren't the only two that were painted. One had a silhouette of Foghorn Leghorn and sundry other silhouettes. We had 16 planes..."

Nice and perky.
Actually, I wanted to ask what exactly Major Dad does in the Marines.

I've seen these before. Now I know who to thank!

That's a nice CARC, but we don't do that CARC anymore.
To paraphrase Father of the Bride.

Kraut, actually I've had a varied career; first a grunt then an avionics type on 53-Es. Was a Gunny (E-7) then they made me a Warrant Officer then a Captain and I'll finish up a Major. My job as an officer has been as an Avionics Officer. Here in P-Cola, I've been the Senior Marine at the Avionics schoolhouse. My office figures out and assigns the follow-on schools and final duty station for the Marines (3500+) who graduate from the aircraft maintenance schools here.

My dad worked in aircraft maintenance in the USAF. We were at Eglin for four years. I don't remember seeing any interesting artwork like that, but then, my parents would have pulled me the other way by my eyeballs. That was way back in ancient times.

Thanks Major Dad. I was just curious.
I have always been drawn to helicopters and when I saw you pictures I had to ask. Sounds like you have an interesting job.
Hey, last year during the hurricanes Albany got a huge contingent of YOUNG Marines from P-cola. Were those your kids? They seemed sooooo young...
Anyway
Dad was crew chief/door gunner on a tiny UH-1B gunship in Vietnam 66-67. He would always take me to air shows and we would check out all the helicopters.
Good memories.

They were his kids.

Yes they were the little darlings. BTW, those paint jobs were done in Saudi. The higher ups said paint them sand color so we went out to a local merchant, bought the paint of the shelf and voila. Not exactly by the book.

Depends on which book you mean, Major Dad.
