The Duke Rape Case

...in some deep, DEEP doo-doo. MSNBC's Dan Abrams has gotten his hands on the prosecution documents and they don't add up. VIDEO here. One of his most interesting points? NOT the inconsistencies of the accuser's story, medical reports, etc. but...

"...When you look at of the dates on some of the documents that were subpoenaed by the prosecution, you have the DA making statements about them before he even had access to them. Making statements about this case well before, it would seem, he'd even seen alot of the evidence."

Add today's news to the headline story in Newsweek:
The prosecutor insists his rape case is strong. One big problem: the facts thus far.

...with it's litany of prosecutorial arrogance...
...The media coverage of the case has been enormous. NEWSWEEK put the mug shots of two of the players—Reade Seligmann, 20, and Collin Finnerty, 19—on its cover the week after they were indicted. Some early accounts raised doubts about the guilt of the players, but the story more typically played as a morality tale of pampered jocks gone wild. Lately, as more evidence from police or medical reports have been filed or cited in court documents by defense lawyers, the national and local media have been raising questions about Nifong's conduct of the case and his motivations.

Asked for an interview last week by NEWSWEEK, Nifong declined, but sent an angry e-mail accusing the national media of getting spun by defense lawyers and sticking to his earlier comments to the press. "None of the 'facts' I know at this time, indeed, none of the evidence I have seen from any source, has changed the opinion that I expressed initially," he wrote. He lashed out at "media speculation" (adding, "and it is even worse on the blogs"). He said that he was bound by ethics rules against commenting any more about the case or evidence.

...Nifong called the lacrosse players "hooligans" who were stonewalling. In fact, when police asked the three co-captains who rented the house to come down to the station for questioning two days after the incident, all of them readily agreed. None tried to get a lawyer and all volunteered to take lie-detector tests (the police declined their offer).

...Later, Roberts changed her story and said that a rape might possibly have taken place. But that was after Nifong had helped her get favorable bail treatment for violating probation (she had pleaded guilty to embezzlement charges in another case). Roberts later contacted rap star Lil' Kim's publicist "for any advice as to how to spin this to my advantage."

Read the whole thing. It will curdle your blood. He'll get re-elected on the ruin of those three lives.

Damn rules of evidence. Next thing you know, they'll be requiring all sorts of stuff like probable cause...

Surey things have not gotten that desperate, Ken?

This whole Duke false rape claim thing is exhausting! I'm taking a break until tomorrow. Until then...

Funny story

I was discussing the Duke Rape claim on this feminist blog site, and this woman was claiming it’s all about women enduring the pains of oppression like she having to shave her pubes before putting on her bikini to ride her bike at the beach, the resulting stubble irritates her skin which is all a part of being forced to live in a patriarchal society of rape and female oppression.

I told “Ms Kate” if you don’t want to shave your thick pubes, then don’t! It’s as simple as that! Just comb a part in it to not confuse any birds trying to fly in! Sheesh! You claiming an oppressive patriarchal society is forcing you to shave your pubes? You’re oppressing yourself!

HEY, SIS! HOW COME BETTY GETS TO USE P-WORDS WITH IMPUNITY AND I GET IN DEEP DOO DOO OVER IT????

Pubes...those are underclassmen, er, persons at the Naval Academy, right?

And i agree with you, Betty. Some of the 'discussions' you get from the feminists are not to be believed. They see male patriarchic oppression everywhere...they feel that they are getting raped by every telephone pole they pass.

Ken, feminist have marketed women as "victims" and "morally superior to men", so we women can get away with saying a lot of things men can't, and if you're a size two with double Ds, you can get a man to say it for you. LOL! I love being a girl!

Mr. Bingley ;)

I'm tired of hiring women whine about life not being perfect or fair then blaming it all on men. What ever happened to women taking responsibility for their behavior and decisions. I think it's because men are afraid to argue with women. Many men have been neutured to feel responsible for traditional gender roles the existed centeries before they were born, yet forget that men are obligated to their own gender roles (i.e. defender and provider of home and country).

Well I wouldn't know about being a size 2 with double D's. Bingley?

Sadly, Betty, "taking responsibility for their behavior and decisions" is a lost art in our country, and indeed people are encouraged to lay the blame elsewhere.

Thank you Ken for finally saying what I wish that people would refer to FIRST. Never mind that they are guilty or innocent. Underage drinking, public urination and hiring strippers in the first place???? WTF??? Did I miss something here? They are at Duke to LEARN, not carry on like the place is a bar/whorehouse. I am so disappointed that every blog I read people are going on about their lives being ruined. If this is the kind of activity that is promoted and goes on, they have effed up morals in the first place. Serves them right. I'm sure the neighbors could see this trainwreck on its way down the tracks.

Feminism, blah, blah, blah has nothing to do with it. Responsibility for your behavior and their behavior in this case was appalling and it's why this happened in the first place.
