There're Ambulance Chasers, Guys Who Want the Boob Job Back And Then?

There's this guy.

The ex-husband of one of the nine people killed at a Christmas Eve party has been asked by a landlord to pay the dead woman's rent.

Broadcrest Foothill Apartment Homes claims Alicia Ortiz broke her lease and gave "insufficient notice to vacate."

Ortiz and her 17-year-old son were killed by her sister's disgruntled ex-husband.

There's a big difference between asking and getting. There's a big difference between suing and winning.

Sometimes brazenness pays off.

But it still makes you a jerk.

Having had the pleasure of dealing with many landlords in the past several years, I'm not surprised. Money is the bottom line, and they get it where they can get it.

I'm certain Kate is a model renter like I was. That said, most landlords and most renters deserve each other.

This is breathtaking in its assholity.

I hope the case actually goes to trial and the judge rams an auger up the landlord's backdoor. (Then again it's California so maybe not.)

As a former renter and current (for about 25 years) landlord, I gotta take a little bit of umbrage at some of the comments. I've known good and bad of both, more good than bad in both cases.

But not too much umbrage. Guy's a jerk.

Oh, and Gunslinger: I'm a landlord in California. Trust me when I say that California law is not overly friendly to landlords. This is, after all, the state in which the Supreme Court randomly decided that in home accidents in which there is no negligence at all the landlord has to pay up, apparently because they are "rich" and can afford it. I suspect he'll definitely get an "auger up the backdoor", figuratively speaking.
