As If Yesterday Wasn’t Bad Enough

Waking up to another raging thunderstorm, with Mike Siedel of the Weather Channel broadcasting from here (“Historic Flooding in Pensacola” as the banner underneath) the first thing on the telly when you try to check the radar, seein’ as the ‘puter won’t boot fast enough…kinda puts a damper on things from the get-go. That warm, fuzzy, “we’re boned” feeling.

Round 2 after the break, ladies and germs…

ths update: DAMMIT!

Siedel just announced a rain gauge in our section of the county (SouthWest) measured a shade over 22 inches of rain yesterday. Considering what we slogged through, that seems about right. We lost at least 5 houses to flooding in the neighborhood so far and washed out the main drag thanks to an incomplete county drainage (!) project. Could have gone badly for our house had it not slacked off when it did. Now we’re waiting with baited breath for today’s fun and games to play out, as the cistern behind us has done all it can do dispersing the torrent and the swamp’s full. There’s just no place for any water to go.

But let me add that Mort, on the otherhand, is having a grand time. It’s like box turtle frickin’ Disneyland back there.

ths update: And here are the official rain totals from the National Weather Service:

MORE flooding? Yeah, you definitely need that ark.

And I’m sure that you have plenty of the old military fallback for pre-packaged rations: Tabasco Sauce.

Worked wonders for that “Hominy grits, with smoke flavoring added” t-ration main stay.

    SCHNAUSAGES!!!

  3. leelu says:

If you haven’t already, clear out the fridge first.

If you already have, well, condolences. Maybe, simmer them in BBQ sauce w/ garlic & onion?

Just looked at the weather radar for your AO….and it doesn’t look particularly good. Weather radar isn’t an absolute measurement of what actually hits the ground, so I’m hoping that things are slackening off a bit.

And while I know you can take care of yourselves, I’m concerned enough to ask: do you have a “go-to-hell” plan? As in, preparing to evacuate?

  5. Kathy Kinsley says:

Ack. Local news here is saying 23 inches in Pensacola (not paying attention to areas in…). I KNOW we all need some rain. But, a little at time thanks?

As for what JeffS says, I prefer habanero sauce (so, sue me, I like things HOT), but the principle remains.

And yeah, bug out if you need to. I’m sure you do have a plan. Even if it involves ladders and roofs… 😛

  6. tree hugging sister says:

That’s about right, Kathy, when you add in the 2+ inches we’ve gotten today.

Been fun watching everything we missed around town on the national news…

  7. JeffS says:

The weather radar shows virtually no rainfall in your neck of the woods. Just some storm cells out in the Gulf.

    YAY!

  8. Dr Alice says:

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. NOT THE VIENNA SAUSAGES.

Was forced to eat them when camping in Girl Scouts. Never got over it.

More seriously, I am glad you all are OK and so is the house.

  9. major dad says:

Vienna sausages are fatty heaven in a can, yum….House is okay and the yard is watered for weeks.
