So far 10 people shot and reports of some fatalities, but you know how these things swing.
Gun-free military base combined with gun-free city, so everyone inside is sitting ducks.

This is why it has to shake out. But I can tell you from WATCHING, they just helo-hoisted a wounded person out of the Yard, and there were TWO rifles, one pointed out of either side of the helo, providing COVER and ready to go if they had to.
Not good.

Police search for active shooters on grounds of Washington Navy Yard in Southeast D.C.
Police say three shooters, including at least one in fatigues, have shot at least 10 people at the Washington Navy Yard.
Police said at least one of the shooters is “down,” but it was unclear whether that means the suspect has been arrested or shot. Two remain at large, and police believe they have pinned down one between the third and fourth floors of one of the buildings on the installation in Southeast Washington.

My thoughts and prayers are with those injured, their families, and the families of those killed (if it turns out there are fatalities). This is awful.
And my prayers that they catch all the shooters really quickly
Can someone explain to me why, after Fort Hood, any military site would be deemed a “GUN FREE ZONE”? These people were sitting ducks.
A Naval Yard is pretty much always, by its nature, “gun-free”. About 75-80% of the work-force is civilian and there’s nothing remotely combat related about it, Syd. Not to mention, since Clinton took ALL the Marine guard detachments off the gates in the early 90’s, your “security force” is an overweight, generally disninterested civilian rent-a-cop operation, which you can stay a part of, even if you’re disabled (DISCLAIMER: there ARE VERY DEDICATED members of the same…) Oh, yes.
Obama is currently on the tube, declaring that those responsible will be aprehended held accountable. Someone must have handed him the Benghazi speech by accident.
THS, thanks for that explanation, but if this turns out to be more than a disgruntled employee, and it certainly appears to be), then why didn’t someone consider it and several locations like it, to be a likely target?
I would honestly be SHOCKED by a disgruntled employee. I mean, how many of them can actually get a couple of neighbors to go along for an rampage?
The Obama spin dept. will be hopping. The reassignment of job duties narrative could allow the admin to spin it as sequester-caused instead of leaning on the “irritating youtube video” story. What they’ll want to develop is 1) budget cutbacks set off a 2) unstable veteran(s) who was enabled by 3) lax gun laws allowing 4) detachable magazine capable black firearms and motivated in part by this time of 5) great division when people dare disagree with the president’s policies.
I’m informed by a reliable source that the Pentagon Police support that facility, in addition to the civilian guards. Plus, NCIS is headquartered there. So why the Charlie Foxtrot?
Also …. the media sure blew it again, huh? Even though are the “professional” “journalists”.
