Germany Tries To Annex Greece

Not quite sure why they’d want to, mind you, but hey why not try with your purse what you couldn’t accomplish with your boots

BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany is pushing for Greece to relinquish control over its budget policy to European institutions as part of discussions over a second rescue package, a European source told Reuters on Friday.

“There are internal discussions within the Euro group and proposals, one of which comes from Germany, on how to constructively treat country aid programs that are continuously off track, whether this can simply be ignored or whether we say that’s enough,” the source said.

The source added that under the proposals European institutions already operating in Greece should be given “certain decision-making powers” over fiscal policy.

I can’t imagine how any Greek politician could support this and hope to avoid a noose. They’re simply going to default.

Part of me doesn’t blame the Germans. Everyone keeps demanding that they pony up billions and billions to keep these third-world kleptocracies from facing the music. At some point he that pays the piper decides the tune.

But another part of me says It’s The Germans We’re Talking About Here!!! Yeah, they’ve been on their best behavior for the last 65 years but, still, IT’S THE GERMANS!!!!!!!!

So, at the end of the day, I’ll just sit back and laugh my ass as this comedy-slash-tragedy plays out. Oh, and be damn glad I’m not “European”.

Sometime ago, on another blog, I made the (half-serious) observation that Germany was trying to conquer Europe again, this time without the Wehrmacht.

I see that my comment wasn’t half-serious, after all.

Maybe they re-make The Guns of Navarone, only this time it’s a German team sent into Greece to save the Greeks from themselves.
