   Lots of people eat dog, by the way. American Indians used to keep dogs both as garbage disposals and as self-feeding emergency rations.

   What mojo said. I’ve probably eaten dog – or cat or both – I spent a few years in Asia, and I didn’t always ask what the meat was.

   It’s a good counter-meme to the transport thing. But that’s it. Really. Unless you truly want to hold hands with PETA.

   Not all dogs are pets. I’ve lived in places (see above) with wild dog packs. They are not what most Americans think of as ‘pet’ (unless your definition of pet includes animals that would happily eat you…alive).
