That way this can get settled under the radar. Not being a legal type myself (Diptera, Dave J., NoBrainer?), I throw a question out to our experts. Is this common practice ~ negotiating/sanitizing reports ~ thereby making this news piece much ado about nothing?
Lawyers at the Washington firm Williams and Connolly who work for Cisnero and both Clintons have argued to judges overseeing the case that allegations of illegal activity, for which no charges were filed, should be snipped before the report is made public.
It certainly seems inflammatory on it’s face.

I’m flattered that you think of me as a legal type, but I am not a lawyer, so my elementary theory on this may not hold up under heavy scrutiny. Simply publishing the results of the probe doesn’t strike me as illegal itself. Then again, any (shall we say) irregularities in the probe, were they significant, should have been sent along to the disciplinary review board of whatever bar has jurisdiction. I’m presuming they haven’t been, or else that those involved have been cleared.
Maybe THS is buttering you up for a loan, Nightfly.

Let’s just call them ‘cold day in HELL‘ creampuffs. Not that I’m bitter or anything.
But anyway, back to the original question. If your name and rumored deeds come up in an official probe of someone else’s misdeeds, but no one acts upon your said rumored deeds for whatever reason, do you get to have your name expunged from the final report?
I’m no lawyer, but it strikes me that it’s evidence dug up in the course of an official investigation, and therefore is in the public arena. That it was never acted upon is probably immaterial; it’s sort of like finding out some celebrity had an unpaid parking ticket during the course of an income tax audit. Sort of.
OK, lawyers, rip my argument to shreds! 8^D
