  1. Skyler says:

There is no longer any pretense that we are slaves.

  2. major dad says:

Slaves? Naw, too many don’t do any work to be classified as slaves. Maybe serfs and subjects…

  3. Nobrainer says:

“we’re not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you”

That’s a funny principle for him to suddenly appreciate.

  4. Mr. Bingley says:

Hey Nobrainer! Long time no see!

  5. tree hugging sister says:

Right you are, my hubby. But WE are the slaves to continuing THAT demographic’s lifestyle…

  6. aelfheld says:

S’okay, I absolutely reject that it is a president.

  7. aelfheld says:

MD, THS, the proper term is ‘indentured servants’ (and no, it has nothing to do with dental hygiene).

  8. major dad says:

The more I read about this ruling the more I think Roberts may be smarter than all of us because at the very least he gutted the Commerce Clause as a mechanism for the Congress to do what ever it wants. Tax hikes have reprecussions…

  9. Dave E. says:

I’m getting that sense too, md. It’s worth some consideration.

  10. JeffS says:

    Gutted the Commerce Clause? Interesting.

What’s that old saying? “The shortest path to victory is the long way around”?

    Hmmmmm……

  11. JeffS says:

    PS:

    Boom.”

  12. Skyler says:

Major dad, what you say about the commerce clause is true, but if so, this is a pyrrhic victory. We won a small part of redefining the commerce clause in a very limited way and we got a train wreck on our economy and our freedom in return. I don’t see this as a silver lining.

We could have had our commerce clause and a smack down of this law from the bowels of hell. It’s like the Balrog has taken down Gandalf, Frodo was captured by Sauron, Aragorn is dead and middle earth is on fire, but at least we have light for reading.

  13. Skyler says:

And this opens up a whole new mode of oppression. The IRS has the power to take from you outside of any other normal due process. They take, and you can do nothing about it except go to court afterwards. They have powers recognized by the courts that go far beyond other law enforcement or court powers when collecting taxes. Now this expansion of their interest can be set to virtually anything they want.

This is not the America I was taught to love and defend.

We need a complete overhaul of our courts and the funny thing is that all federal judges are appointed by the president and the president has been a republican for 28 of the past 44 years. I don’t think it will happen.

I fear for the future of this country, and because we are the leading light of freedom, I fear for the future of the world.

  14. major dad says:

Skyler I don’t know all that Tolkein stuff, that’s THS and Ebola territory but I think that judging by the fund raising already, the electorate, that being the tax paying side, will come down hard on this. The math already seems to indicate that this will decimate small business and aside from the left high fiving each other this may just turn into a big backfire for them. Here’s hoping….because it’s still the economy.

  15. aelfheld says:

From what I’ve read and heard – not much, admittedly, the subject is so disheartening – Congress can now direct every aspect of our lives provided they penalise tax us into compliance.

This, in conjunction with Kelo vs. New London, has put paid to the American project.

  16. Skyler says:

Bringing up Kelo makes me even more depressed.

Roberts clearly doesn’t value freedom more than his perverse sense of the law.

  17. Syd B. says:

    I remember well my country……..

I grew up in the second half of the 20th century, which I am certain will be remembered as the absolute best 50 years in the history of man. The first half of the new millennium will pale in comparison and is already off to a great start with that distinction.

Man what a run!……… I have to be the luckiest sunuvabitch ever born. Sorry it is turning to shit for the next generation, but I have done all I can do.
