Homicides soar in second-tier East Coast cities
Lack of immigrants, shift to anti-terrorism cited as possible explanations
Baltimore, Philadelphia and other cities in a bloodstained corridor along the East Coast are seeing a surge in killings, and one of the most provocative explanations offered by criminal-justice experts is this: not enough new immigrants.
The theory holds that waves of hardworking, ambitious immigrants reinvigorate desperately poor black and Hispanic neighborhoods and help keep crime down.
Well, I can see no one’s asking LA about their perpetual wave of wonderful new immigrants helping keep crime down in Hispanic neighborhoods and why might that be, hmmm? And as far a Jacksonville’s statistics go, lemme share what an Orlando police officer told us last year when they were the ‘murder capital ‘of Florida.
“If you’re not buying drugs, chances are you’ll never get killed.”
Which, coincidentally, happens to be the same thing I heard in Jacksonville this April. Doesn’t have a thing to do with immigrants keeping the peace. Has to do with the already criminal element getting pissed and using a piece when they don’t ~ or can’t ~ get a piece or somebody owes someone for a piece.

Idiot politicians are making it harder and harder every day to support rational improvements for immigration by acting like idiots and associating reason with imbecility.
I love how this article also takes a swipe at anti-terror efforts and blames guns that “…are more powerful than ever…“. Semi-automatic weapons appear to be a new concept to whomever wrote this tripe.
Idiot politicians and biased reporters. Wotta combination.
It could just be that Philly and Baltimore are horribly managed and no one in their right mind wants to move there.
The immigrant thing may be a real indicator. If the immigrants don’t want to come to your city, it may be a good sign that you are doing things wrong.
Atlanta also shows up on the “If you’re not out at 2AM, chances are you’ll never get shot.”
There is no law and order because the illegals can’t own weapons and where the citizenry own weapons and everyone knows it there is less crime, cause and effect. It has nothing at all to do with your ethnicity it has to do with cold hard steel:)
That Orlando police officer is half right. If you’re not buying OR selling drugs, chances are you’ll never get killed. You’d almost think the druggies would run out of people to sell to, buy from, or kill sooner or later.
Wouldn’t you, Rob? Then again, I’ll bet the birthrate in those areas is five times the national average, so maybe it’s self-perpetuating misery.
