Only Saw One Movie This Year

And that was “American Sniper.”

Didn’t see any of the others up for whatever last night.

Well also didn’t watch any of the Oscars either.

Guess I’m just a long-eared galoot.

I saw them all exceot for Whiplash and Selma and they were all worthy movies. Personally, I would have voted for The Grand Budapest Hotel, only because it was a comedy. I think many people would have liked American Sniper to win and I wouldn’t have been disappointed if it did, but to say that it didn’t because of political leanings takes away from the brilliance of the other movies in the running, so I choose not to speculate, notwithstanding that Hollywood is a breeding ground for lefty hate. There was plenty of that on display last night.

That makes 2 Luddites in the family, but I WILL admit to WANTING to see The Grand Budapest Hotel.

I’ll have a liberal moment and blame major dad for not taking me.

  3. major dad says:

That’s okay, almost nobody else saw any of those other movies either judging by the box office. BTW, THS if full of it, I never said I wouldn’t go see that Budapest flick…

Best speech of the night was JK Simmons saying if you have parents call them. Don’t text or e-mail them. Call them and tell them you love them.

Refreshing after sitting through the political crap that many of the other winners spewed.

    Oscars == must-miss.

Saw The Grand Budapest Hotel and InterStellar. Not wild about the first, loved the second.

Saw the Grand Budapest Hotel and American Sniper. Didn’t like the 1st, loved the 2nd. Didn’t watch the Oscars either, I knew American Sniper wouldn’t win, so who cares!

I’ve ignored the Oscars for about 15 years. Growing up, the Oscars were great shows, with the winners accepting awards graciously, and offering prime entertainment even during their banter.

But well before the politically correct crap and sucking up to the intellectual “elites” arose out of the liberal black hole known as “Hollywood”, they became a mutual masturbation assemblage for narcissists everywhere.

That doesn’t mean Hollywood awards only the unclassy and clueless. But the “Occupy” branch of Hollywood dominates everything there, and I avoid supporting it.

I do buy the DVDs, though. Good stuff still comes out of that place.

I spent yesterday driving my parents from the Bay Area (on a visit to my brother) back to LA. In the rain. After I dropped them off I drank wine and read a book. I was not in the mood to watch an awards show.

And I maintain that “The LEGO Movie” was robbed. No nomination?! I can’t believe it.
