UPDATE: Oh, God, it’s Ace and it’s rude, but it’s also so damnably true.
He seems to be denying paternity in order to avoid confessing he was schtupping this woman while his wife was dying of incurable cancer.
“Hey, I just fucked her when Elizabeth was in remission. It’s like the Area Code theory, you know? If you’re in another Area Code, or your wife is in remission, it’s not really ‘cheating.'”
I thought it was more “The Two Americas” theory: it doesn’t count when you’re in one and your wife’s in the other.
UPDATE Part Deux: Awwwww. Poor MSNBC.com says they didn’t run the story because it was just tough as nuts to prove, and they didn’t want to get it wrong.
Reporters don’t like being beaten on a major political story, especially by a supermarket tabloid. And being beaten up over not reporting one is even less appealing.
But a sexual affair can have just two people who know the truth. Without witnesses, documents, photographs or some form of irrefutable evidence pointing to the truth, news organizations will not endanger their own integrity.
That made it difficult to prove — and to print — the rumors that John Edwards had cheated on his seriously ill wife while running for president. Reporters were left to poke around the edges of a potentially career-ending scandal in search of an opening.
It’s a shame they didn’t extend that same sense of journalistic integrity to John McCain.
John McCain emphatically denied a romantic relationship with a female telecommunications lobbyist on Thursday and said a report by The New York Times suggesting favoritism for her clients is “not true.”
…The newspaper quoted anonymous aides as saying they had urged McCain and Iseman to stay away from each other prior to his failed presidential campaign in 2000. In its own follow-up story, The Washington Post quoted longtime aide John Weaver, who split with McCain last year, as saying he met with lobbyist Iseman and urged her to steer clear of McCain.
Hey! But, since it was a filthy Republican, they were keeping faith with the public’s right to know and just reporting the news.
They could ‘investigate’ and ‘prove’ the allegations later.

That is SO true, Mark. I also love how MSNBC.com has been running a “it was so hard to prove” story. Nobody worried about proving jack before they ran the bogus “McCain and the lobbyist” schmear in the NYT.

What I don’t get is why anyone gives a crap. Edwards is a has-been with over-rated hair as far as I’m concerned. Or a never-was. I can’t get the seduction scene out of my head:

And furthermore, war was breaking out in Georgia, over a thousand people were dead, and our entire media was galvanized by a story broken by the NATIONAL ENQUIRER??? Shouldn’t they have figured out how low they had sunken at that point? Today, I don’t think I’d be entirely surprized if something the magnitude of 9/11 was be eclipsed by a Britney melt-down.

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — In a mysterious bit of monkey business, a female at a chimpanzee sanctuary has given birth, despite the fact that the facility’s entire male chimp population has had vasectomies.
Now managers at Chimp Haven are planning a paternity test for the seven males who lived in a group with Teresa, a wild-born chimpanzee in her late 40s who had the baby girl last week.
Workers have started collecting hair samples from the chimps for testing. Once they identify the father, it’s back to the operating room for him.
Chimp Haven managers said they knew something was up when Teresa was missing during morning rounds on January 8. Later in the day, she appeared with a newborn chimpanzee in her arms.
“Well, we were all just a little bit surprised when we heard the news,” said Linda Brent, a spokeswoman for Chimp Haven.
The baby chimpanzee was named Tracy and she and her mother are doing fine, Brent said.
Teresa had 10 other offspring before retiring to Chimp Haven over a year ago. This is her first baby in 13 years.
It’s also the first chimpanzee born at the sanctuary although officials there hope there will be no more accidents.
Chimp Haven provides long-term care for chimpanzees who are no longer needed for laboratory research. It was established by a group of primatologists and is located on 200 forested acres about 20 miles southwest of Shreveport. The first chimpanzee residents began arriving in 2005, according to the sanctuary’s website.
How could john edwards have any heart whatsoever to do his wife as he did? The gracious lady has endured the treatment for cancer and this treatment is about as close to death as one can get and still bounce back just in time for the next treatment. If john had been there to see the suffering she went through, he could not have planned his evenings with another woman. I am surely glad he did not get the nomination, who knows? he could have fooled us untill he got elected. Run for anything you want to now john, you will see how few supporters you have. I have no respect for you.
