   As I recall, fairy works in both places. Unless you are in the gardening industry, in which case fairy gardens=miniature gardens.

   Not to mention that nobody nowadays will understand what was meant by “the gay nineties.”

   Should an engaged couple be frank and earnest, or should one of them be a girl? used to be a vulgar nightclub joke. Now it’s government policy that neither of them be a girl.

   Perhaps your headline is correct, Bingley. Consider the reputation of the French for extremarital affairs.
