We Need A Fashion “Reset” Button

I know all the cool kids are talking about the photo of the two White House staffers coming off of Air Force One carrying their surfboards, but honestly it’s the other photo posted there that sums up, well, everything about our President (and his staff) who we were/are continually told is the Most Stupendulously Intelligenticle Hipsterian Evah

Look, more often than I will admit I stumble about the house after a night of Dionysian indulgence with my orange cardigan fumbly buttoned like that in the misty morning haze…but I always manage to gussy myself just enough before the cameras start rolling.

  1. JeffS says:

WTF? Even hippies know how to button their jacket.

Some staff you got there, Obambi!

Not to mention Michelle. While she dresses like she’s modeling for a half-price clothes rack at the second hand store, Michelle does understand the etiquette of buttons.

    Jeez.

  2. Mr. Bingley says:

Look at her pants, though, Jeff.

She’s obviously trying to butter up Rob and Sis with her “Geaux Saints” pattern.

Or she stole them from Marie Antoinette…

  3. JeffS says:

YEECH! I missed those; I get too much eye strain looking at Michelle.

More likely, she stole them from Marie Antoinette.

  4. Gary from Jersey says:

Nah. She didn’t steal ’em. She spilled something fighting the kids for Super Mario.

  5. Suzette says:

He should just grow a hairknob like the other Obamas and get it over with.

  6. tree hugging sister says:

    Putz.

And dear God ~ what is that thigh thing with the misshapen…were those at one time my beloved fleur de lis?

    SACRE BLUR!!!!

  7. tree hugging sister says:

But he IS a hairknob, Suzette.

  8. Dave E. says:

It’s that “I’m so cool” look that really makes it. That might have to be my new wallpaper.

Do you think MSNBC would have ignored it if it had been GW?

  9. Skyler says:

I don’t care how he dresses. If he dressed perfectly, he’d still be a communist.

  10. JeffS says:

Be glad we can’t see her belt, Sis. Unless she finally gave it back to Batman.

Dave — if by “cool” look, you mean “drunken nerd” look, I’m with you.

  11. Yojimbo says:

Put me down for the Marie Antoinette vote.

What’s Spanish Riviera for “cake”, anyway?

Those are designer pants, if you please. Has anyone in the press ever asked her if she pays for all those designer clothes. Remember the big broohaha over the pair of cuff links in the Reagan Administration.

  12. Rob says:

The fleurdelis is always OK in my book and if she just threw them on after a quickie on Air Force One, well …

omg, it’s the First Wookie and JarJar

  14. Bob in Texas says:

Remember when the left was all twitterpated over Bush when it /appeared/ his collar was misbuttoned (though in fact, it wasn’t)?

  15. tree hugging sister says:

    Oh, dear GOD, ROB…

    I…

    Forget it. Just forget it.

  16. JeffS says:

Rob, that would ‘splain why Obama dressed in a hurry….

  17. MakeSense says:

You would think with the army of overpaid staffers Obama has, at least one of them would speak up! But no one has the ball to tell the emperor.

  18. sherlock says:

AAAARGHH….I did not need to be reminded that we taxpayers paid for knockwurst-brain to join the mile-high club.

  19. Don Rodrigo says:

Doesn’t her butt require its own pants? And a separate security detail?

  20. Rob says:

That’s what I’m thinking, JeffS. Mile high club?

  21. Rob says:

Would explain the grins, too. 🙂

  22. Teresa says:

Personally, I’m just happy he’s wearing all his clothes. Anyhow, it’s far better than his topless beach look or even shorts with sandals.

I’m afraid that if I make a crack about the manner in which his coat is buttoned, I’ll end up walking out of the house tomorrow and forgetting to button some important thing or other. heh.

  23. JeffS says:

    Mile high club?

    With multiple Oak Leaf Clusters.

  24. tree hugging sister says:

    The “cluster f*ck” being Obama’s particular specialty…

  25. Skyler says:

    Instalanche!

  26. Lee Reynolds says:

How is any of this relevant to anything?

Obama is wearing the wrong kind of blazer to only use the top button. I have no expertise on women’s fashion and so I cannot comment on anything Michelle Obama is wearing.

    But neither do I care.

Policies matter. Ideas matter. Fashion (or lack thereof)…. not so much.

Poking fun at Obama for its own sake smacks of being a partisan hack. I don’t care what the man wears. I do care what he DOES and how his choices and the ideas that motivate them damage the country.

  27. DirtCrashr says:

    Why isn’t his coat-collar turned-up, Eurostyle?

  28. Mr. Bingley says:

Lee, perhaps you didn’t look closely at the photo. It’s not a question of “wearing the wrong kind of blazer to only use the top button”; he’s got Button #1 inserted into Button Hole #2.

Which, while it may or may not be a sly commentary on the recent repeal of DADT, does make him look like a goober.

He is our President, and when he looks like a fool we all look like fools, and for someone who we were told was so gosh darned suave and sophisticated and coolly intelligent…well, much like how his policies are working out we’re finding that it ain’t necessarily so, now is it?

  29. D says:

you’d think that ONE of the 3 family members walking with him would have told him… unless they don’t care that he looks bad in public.

  30. Javier says:

    I think pre-op Marty Antoinette.

  31. L says:

Seriously D, I have a 12 year old daughter and get an unrequested fashion review any time I leave the house, and I definitely don’t have photographers around to document her possible embarrassment.

  32. […] then there’s this photo of the president himself; note the misbuttoned […]

  33. jeanneb says:

Am I mistaken, or does she have see-through (fleur de lis) panels on her pants?!

  34. imissbooooosh says:

Imagine it GWB dressed like that…..it’d be on 24/7……this dingdong gets a pass……perfect.

  35. Steve says:

    HA HA HA!

  36. tree hugging sister says:

jeanneb, as much as it pains me to say it, the answer is…

Forget it. Craven COWARD that I am, I can’t say it. I love the fleur de lis entirely too much.

  37. HellCat says:

The thing that struck me is the SIZE of Michelle’s thighs. I dated a running back in college that had thighs that size – like the size of a woman’s waist.

  38. JeffS says:

    Hot Air ‘lanche!

    YAYS!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. Mark says:

Guess it’s too much for him to respect the office and wear a jacket with a freaking tie when in public. Go back to Reagan, you never saw him in public without a jacket and tie. Leader of the Free World right there, look at it and weep.

  40. GarandFan says:

Hmmm….”The Most Intelligent Man in the World” can’t button his own sweater. But major points for having his zipper up.

  41. Yojimbo says:

Mile high club? I thought his drug days were behind him.

  42. Marcy says:

Her thigh is as big as Barry.

Fashion forward Michelle. What a crock. She looks terrible.

Can you imagine Laura Bush wearing anything as awful as that?

Didn’t think so. With Michelle, this happens all the time.

  43. asdf says:

The only good news about replaying the Carter Administration and the late 70’s is that it was followed by two major improvements: Reagan and New Wave.

  44. Tom says:

“He is our President, and when he looks like a fool we all look like fools”

No we don’t, and frankly, this sort of comment illustrates the very mindset that allows a Barack Obama to do so much damage to this country in the first place.

Stop exalting the presidency. Stop elevating it to a plane it was never supposed to operate on. Stop investing it with so much symbolism and power.

In the United States, a president is supposed to merely be a citizen who takes the office for four years to handle a few limited duties. That’s it. This citizen is not supposed to become so important. He merits suspicion and a watchful eye, not instinctive deference.

When you describe the presidency as some sort of vaunted representation of “we all,” you are imbuing it with the very sort of power that ultimately threatens individualism and liberty. The cult of the presidency has been one of the most damaging developments in this country, and it’s way past time to tear it down.

  45. JeffS says:

Sorry, Sis, but Michelle *IS* wearing your beloved fleur de lis……

  46. el polacko says:

he does always wear the flag pin now though.. you know, the one he called ‘phony patriotism’

  47. Anonna says:

Tom, your rant is all very well, but you take it too far in the other direction. Perhaps only Obama looks like an ass with his jacket buttoned wrong, but he looks like an ass while holding the office of the President. The clownish “keeping it real” performance of this First Couple is embarrassing to our nation and degrades the office. While the President is just a citizen who holds a job for four years, she/he is also someone whose comportment should show respect for the privilege of holding that job.

    Got it.
