We’ll Stand Alone

As THS refers to below, the silence is deafening…and disheartening. After the bombings in Bali, bloggers in the US poured out their support for the Aussies. After the bombings in London, we all stood and screamed out our support for our British brothers and sisters. And after Katrina, an informal and very unscientific survey of a variety of pro-Coalition sites in both the UK and Australia shows a complete lack of any similar support, let alone a friggin mention of sympathy, for the folks in her path. Nothing.
And that makes me very sad.
Look, I’m not looking for a handout, I’m not looking for pledges of material goods from someone, but my God folks, we’re abandoning a major american city, abandoning a major american city and one of our major ports is inoperable, and not one of these these supposed allies can say “our thoughts are with you and let us know what we can do.”
And the next time they need aid, we will be there to provide it, like the good faithful puppy that keeps coming to lick your hand no matter how often you kick it, because that’s the way we are, and I hope that never changes.

  1. Curtis says:

“Queen Elizabeth II has sent a message to Mr Bush saying she is “shocked and saddened” at the devastation caused by Katrina, and expressing her sympathy for US citizens.” from the BBC news…. well, at least the brits are with us.

  2. Well, the Queen anyway. Where’s Blair? Where’s George Galloway, who loves pain and suffering to opine upon?
I hope the administration at least thanks Hugo Chavez politely for his offer. Especially in light of the flood of other sympathetic murmurings we’re heard from heads of states. No need to be churlish at a time like this.

  3. John says:

Well, if I had only relied on US and EU news sources, I never would have heard about the Japanese message that Sean noted at White Peril. I think some of this is just not being reported in favor running the 15th story on looting.

  4. Mr. Bingley says:

Thanks for that Curtis; I’d asumed the Queen had done some such. But I’m really looking here at the Brit blogs, the Normblogs and Tim Worstalls of the world, and there’s nothing. That’s what upsets me.

  5. Mr. Bingley says:

And the Australian blogs, as well. They disappoint me.

  6. Saddens me. I can only think they have no idea of the scope. Why else?
I thought we were all friends.

  7. Nightfly says:

Galloway has probably fainted from joy, the wanker.

  8. NJ Sue says:

Normblog did express distress and concern over the hurricane.

  9. NJ Sue says:

So did Mahmoud’s Den (blog from Bahrain); he provided info for donations to the American Red Cross.

  10. NJ Sue says:

I just heard that NBC is going to host a nationwide charity concert/fundraiser on Friday evening. It will include Tim McGraw, Harry Connick Jr., Leonardo Di Caprio (and that’s all I remember).

  11. Mr. Bingley says:

Good; I’m glad to see some bloggers overseas finally taking note of the true extent of this.

  12. We expect adults to perform like adults; i.e. not to moan and groan about how bad everything is, and how people just don’t understand us, and on, and on!
We do understand that there has been a terrible happening in the once wonderful city of New Orleans, and the effects of the hurricane are far more widespread than many had even surmised, but you are a grown-up nation, and all we expect is that you perform the tasks of re-building your homes without beating your chests and moaning about how no-one understands you, and get on with life!
Life’s a bitch, and then you die!

  13. Mr. Bingley says:

I think if you read clearly Mike you will ascertain that I am not “beating my chest and moaning about how no-one understands me”, rather I am pointing out a very disappointing disparrity in the reaction of the blogging community to the tragic events of this year. After all the subway bombings in London did the US blogging community say “Gee, something terrible has happened to the once great Underground, but they are a grown-up nation and they will carry on” or did we all go fucking apeshit and immediately make a multitude of posts boldly stating our love of your fucking country?
Thank you for so clearly proving my point.

  14. By the way, my dog is still alive.

  15. Mr. Bingley says:

And fucking happy wih his dinner.

  16. So there, Mike, you curmudgeonly schmuck.
