WHAT a Great Plan!!!

U.S. Marines trapped Taliban fighters in a residential compound and persuaded the insurgents to allow women and children to leave. The troops then moved in — only to discover that the militants had slipped out, dressed in women’s burqa robes.

Jesus, we just NEVER freakin’ learn. And our kids get to pay for our willful, mealy-mouthed blindness over and over and over again.

LET THEM DO THEIR JOBS, Obama.
Or bring them the fuck HOME.

This sort of shit is what happens with the “kinder, gentler” approach.

Kill em all, let God/Allah/your prefered deity sort em out.

Make them all surrender, and then sort out the women and kids by taking OFF the damned burqas. Let ’em howl all they want about it.

As satisfying as it might have been otherwise, it’s also worth noting that this is a very successful strategy.
Me, I’d prefer to kill anyone that harbors the Taliban or Al Qaeda, willingly or not. It’s good to ensure that people are more afraid of being caught supporting them than they are of not supporting them.
But, it’s true enough that this strategy is also successful, perhaps more so. We show that we are kind and merciful to our friends, and then we remind them constantly of how brutal the other side was while they were in town.
The numbers of the enemy are usually quite low. A town or village can easily keep them out if they have minimal support from us. That is, if we’re told that some enemy have moved into an area, the locals that are now grateful to us tip us off. We can then isolate them and kill them, or simply deny them an area to operate in. This is essentially what happened in Anbar Province in Iraq. It took a while to gain trust, but the people finally learned that our benevolence was not weakness, and it was decidedly better than the enemy.
Have more faith in the Marines. Obama likely had little to do with this specific incident.
The key to this strategy is, as it is in every war since time began, having enough people to do the job. Absent large numbers, no strategy will work.

And I’d like to remind you of the extreme distaste in that culture for anyone touching or even looking at women. To insist on searching all the women in a town would be almost the same as someone strip searching all the women in an American school.
The cost of letting a few people escape for now is quite low compared to the benefit of eliminating their ability to operate within the town. It’s really not as bad as it appears at first glance.
