2.7 Seconds
That’s all it took for the 7th-ranked Woman’s Downhill skier in the world to have her Olympics come to an end.
Does it make me a bad person when I admit I laughed at the video?

What a nightmare. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. One tiny slip and years of dedication are ended in disgrace.
But we’ll be laughing for years to come.
What about the one who went slidin’ off into the trees, over a lip? They pulled her out later, I saw.
I agree completely, Skyler.
This is the first I’ve even watched any of these Olympics, mojo. I just have no interest in them at all for some reason this year.
Cue the music “and the agony of defeat”…
The Olympics are a cruel joke.
Within that framework this year’s travesty in Vancouver is a cruel joke.
But to laugh at the misfortune of a youngster that bought into the charade is just cruel.
And a clear signal that I had misidentified this blog and its author(s) as source of worthwhile thought.
Is it wrong that I will be laughing for years to come at Larry Sheldon for wiping out five seconds into his comment?
Aw that’s a shame Larry. I was going to nominate you for “Queen of the May”.
I thought it worthwhile to laugh.
Laughing is thoughtful.
It’s worthwhile too.
And identifying.
Sourceful as well.
Er, the ‘youngster’ is 20-freakin-seven. Would I have laughed had she wiped out halfway down the course? Nope, I would have cringed and fervently hoped she was ok.
But this is embarrassing like hell for her…and at embarrassing things I laugh.
And she has also secured her place in Olympic history, certainly more than a silver or bronze medal would have gotten her. Hell, I bet she could end up with some advertising deals from this if she plays her cards right.
It’s a classic pratfall. It happened too early for her to be hurt. I’m sure she’s devastated and I’m sorry for that, but it’s only a competition where people strap boards on their feet and glide downhill, for cripes’ sake. Remember the Georgian luge guy who was killed. That’s a tragedy, not this.
Actually, she was hurt. Maybe that’s why she fell.
“The Olympics are a cruel joke.” Someone explain that one.
How about “The ‘modern’ Olympics are a cruel joke”, Major Dad? That makes more sense.
I watched the video just then and I tried to figure out why she went down out of the gates.
Has to hurt being that she was in the hunt for the Gold.
Well if her knee was going to go on her it’s better it happened there than when she would have been going 70+ mph farther down the course.
Sometimes the fickle finger of fate points at someone and says that it’s not your day.
