Are You Kidding Me?

“If you are entering the country illegally please leave us a note and someone will get right back to you…eventually

BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, Texas – The bloody drug war in Mexico shows no sign of relenting. Neither do calls for tighter border security amid rising fears of spillover violence.

This hardly seems a time the U.S. would be willing to allow people to cross the border legally from Mexico without a customs officer in sight. But in this rugged, remote West Texas terrain where wading across the shallow Rio Grande undetected is all too easy, federal authorities are touting a proposal to open an unmanned port of entry as a security upgrade.

By the spring, kiosks could open up in Big Bend National Park allowing people from the tiny Mexican town of Boquillas del Carmen to scan their identity documents and talk to a customs officer in another location, at least 100 miles away.

Build a wall, build it now.

Bluntly put, it’s cheaper and more effective to fund a massive increase in border patrol or use the National Guard to patrol than to build an effective fence system. Great Wall of China was virtually ineffective both due to it’s extent and those manning it. It’s also far easier to dig under shit now, and they’ve proven they are quite effective at that.

Shovel-ready project, baby. Get thousands of people out there with shovels and cement mixers and we’d go a long way towards solving many of our problems.

“Virtually ineffective” means it was actually effective, no? 😉

  3. JeffS says:

I think Ebola meant “effectively ineffective”. 🙂

Anywho, I prefer a mixture of active and passive measures, e.g., a patrolled fence line. Said patrols carrying live ammo.

And Ebola makes a good point about digging; we’ve been seeing tunnels for quite some time already.

Next step: they’ll outsource the customs work. “Hello, my name Peggy…”

  5. Mr. Bingley says:

Ha! They’ll send it off to some call center in India, ricki…

A wall won’t work only thing that will is the removal of the incentive to come over here i.e. jobs, health care etc. Enforce the laws about hiring illegals plain and simple.

  7. Skyler says:

A wall will never be built, for at least two very effective reasons. One, it won’t work. The wall in Berlin only worked because they were willing to kill people breaching it.

Two, and probably more effective as a reason, it will never get past the environmental studies because if it effectively keeps people from crossing the border then it will keep migratory animals from crossing.

So, it won’t happen. But it will continue to be a great foil for stirring up people for no reason at all.

The solution to illegal immigration is to make it easier for peaceful people to come here and return, and at the same time get rid of the socialism that encourages them to stay. And get rid of the anchor baby laws.

Oppressive immigration policies only enable slavery rings in the same way that prohibition created crime.

  8. Skyler says:

Perhaps we should enforce the laws about hiring illegal aliens, but we should reconsider why it is so hard to be a legal resident. We should be encouraging good people to come here and work. As it is now, we only get the ones who want to break the laws and live off of a socialist system. The ones who obey laws can’t get here.

    I meant virtually. Via Websters:
    2: for all practical purposes

It was for all practical purposes ineffective. 😛

And yeah, I’m dead on with removal of gov’t handouts and enforcement of work visas, etc.

Come to think of it, the only successful wall I can think of off the top of my head was Hadrian’s Wall. If we maintained the mean garrison numbers that the Romans did on that particular wall…well, cheaper to just run patrols by a long shot.
