…Our government prevented attacks and saved lives through the Terrorist Surveillance Program, which let us intercept calls and track contacts between al-Qaeda operatives and persons inside the United States. The program was top secret, and for good reason, until the editors of the New York Times got it and put it on the front page. After 9/11, the Times had spent months publishing the pictures and the stories of everyone killed by al-Qaeda on 9/11. Now here was that same newspaper publishing secrets in a way that could only help al-Qaeda. It impressed the Pulitzer committee, but it damn sure didn’t serve the interests of our country, or the safety of our people.
That’s some serious smack-downage.

Dang, that’s a GOOD speech. Straight, to the point, and honest. Obama could learn more than a few things from Mr. Cheney.
Beyond the Bush policies that he’s already endorsed, I mean.
What could he learn? How to torture people. Cheney talks about saving 1000’s of lives if not hundreds of thousands by keeping the terrorists busy. So the 1000’s of US soldiers and 100’s of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians displaced and killed are less important than us? Please! Maybe if the next heart attack is fatal we won’t have to listen to this crap any longer. He should go shoot himself in the face. He will rot in hell where he belongs for the atrocities he committed against mankind.
Steve, I’m guessing you didn’t bother reading or listening to Mr. Cheney’s speech. He was certainly a lot more civil to Obama than you were to Cheney. So you could learn a thing or two, as well.
The only thing bad about this speech was (as Kathy Shaidle put it):
“Cheney’s speech was the best speech of the Bush administration. Too bad it was months/years late.”

Nothing done at Gitmo amounted to torture. Unpleasant, sure, but fight by Marquis of Queensbury rules and thousands or millions die so that you can preserve your egomaniacal self-righteousness. FACT: if we hadn’t waterboarded KSM, Al-Qaeda would most likely have pulled off its second wave by taking out the Library Tower in downtown L.A. Would that have been OK to keep yourself morally pure in your own mind?

JeffS, I find it interesting that people will jump and say “do not judge”, but if you study the bible you will see it is ONE judgment that is researved for God alone to make, that is every persons FINAL judgement.
