End Game In The Ivory Coast?

It looks like it is over for Gbagbo.

A “senior diplomat” has told AP that Outtara forces have now seized the presidential home in Abidjan. Gbagbo and his inner circle are sheltering in a bunker.

In my limited diplomatic experience I’ve found that sheltering in a bunker in your seized presidential home is generally not the strongest position to negotiate from.

But maybe that’s just me.

Update: He’s given up.

Actually, they’ve got a great bargaining chip.

“Hey, you want Gbagbo? Alive or dead? And what do I get for it, either way?”

What will be the final body count? A bit more than in Libya I would say.

  3. Mr. Bingley says:

Yes, md, but far less interesting with regard to Europe’s oil supply.

  4. JeffS says:

The Ivory Coast has been embroiled with civil war for how long? Too long.

Long enough for the long knives to come out.

I think there is more of a threat now to Europes’s oil supply especially if Q-ball stays in power. He is not going to forget who attacked him.

  6. Yojimbo says:

Well, I’m glad to see that the situation is getting back to normal. That means the UN can get back to their rape squads. Wouldn’t want them to multitask for too long.

Oil supplies is the least of the problem if he stays. Meet al Qaeda’s new supplier and training base partner. Wonder how long it will take him to reconstitute his WMD program?

  7. JeffS says:

Yeah, Qaddafi is a vindictive f***ker. He’ll not forget what just happened.

    Lucky us.
