Expectedly Unexpected
The “Recovery Summer” rolls on
(Reuters) – The economy created far fewer jobs than expected in December, suggesting the Federal Reserve will complete its asset buying program, but the unemployment rate dropped to its lowest in more than 1-1/2 years.
Non-farm payrolls increased 103,000, the Labor Department said on Friday, below economists’ expectations for 175,000. Private hiring rose 113,000, while government employment fell 10,000.
If you listen closely, what Biden is actually saying is “you won’t get a job ’til you’re 30.”
Thirty if you’re lucky around here. I’ve seen middle-aged men fight kids for part-time supermarket jobs and muster with Mexican day laborers. God help us when Fort Monmouth closes.
Gary, I know a couple guys that are commuting from Eatontown down to Aberdeen, Md, now.
There’s the lucky ones, Mr. B. There are 5,300 direct jobs and as many as 10,000 more on the line. Meanwhile, Maryland and Delaware spent millions to haul fort workers down there and are getting hard lessons in Jersey tough.
Nobody here wants to go there and only a handful are actually going. I’m hearing that companies from all over the world are poaching high-end fort employees, but it could be a while before they all find jobs here. We can only hope they do.
That’s supposed to say “They’re the lucky ones.” Must be the ebonics gene is kicking in.
Gary: I think there is an “app” for that.
🙂
Well okie dokie, had to research Fort Monmouth to find out what y’all were talking about. Many of us in the western region are blissfully free from the ravages of knowledge on local eastern matters. They cratered parts of Fort Huachuca as well.
