Guess I Missed The Excitement In Zucchini Park Over The Weekend

The Occupysters, who haven’t been there at all for months, decided they needed to celebrate their success or something

(Reuters) – Dozens of Occupy Wall Street protesters were arrested during the weekend as police cleared New York’s Zuccotti Park, where demonstrators had gathered for the struggling movement’s six-month anniversary.

The park remained closed on Sunday with a sprinkling of police surrounding it, keeping the area clear while crews cleaned up following Saturday night’s protests. A sweep just before midnight, when roughly 300 demonstrators had gathered in the park, capped a day of protests and marching in lower Manhattan.

The park was completely empty this morning…just as it’s been for the past three months or so.

Only now the barriers are back surrounding it and blocking access.

It’s funny how the warm weather brings out the OccuCritters; I mean just ask them and they’ll tell you how bold and brave and courageous they are…until the weather gets cool, natch.

Ed Needham, one of several members of the whiny petulant attention whores leaderless movement’s press team, said the weekend’s flare-up could draw renewed attention to Occupy Wall Street.

“Every time they use violence to put us down, it only increases the number of people that are empathetic to the cause. It adds fuel to the fire and draws attention to the movement,” he said, drawing inspiration from Obi-Wan.

“Mayor Bloomberg did us a big help last night in terms of fundraising – by arresting so many it means that our tab for dinner just got a lot smaller as he’s got to feed them now. Frankly, we’re all trying to get arrested. But it’s not just about the financial aspects – it’s not about people writing checks, although (we really really really hope that) they will (because we are so broke), it’s about people standing up to be counted (and by “stand up to be counted” we mean give us money for us to count).”

(the above has been edited somewhat for clarity)

Actually, the best unedited line in the whole piece is

Inspired by the pro-democracy Arab Spring…

How’s that working out, guys?

No live ammo was used by the police, I regret to report.

Walking by Zuccotti Park last week I saw only a few demonstrators who were so well-dressed I can only assume they’ve gotten stylists.
