Horrifically Ignorant Question of the Day

…goes to [ed: drumroll]…Jack Cafferty.

(I know, I know ~ you’re shocked and awed he’s won.)

Here’s my question to you: Should Muslim members of the U.S. military be forced to fight against other Muslims?

He’s getting eaten alive in the comments ~ on CNN, no less ~ so there’s hope.

For the populace, NOT for Cafferty.

    Alternate universe, 1943:

“Should German-Americans in the U.S. military be forced to fight against Germans?”

  2. Reminds me of an episode of M*A*S*H* in which some vaguely Asian looking guy in the American army had psychological issues about fighting Asians.

As if the Japanese and Chinese and Koreans and Vietnamese, et al., hadn’t been doing so for millenia.

Honestly, my first thought was, “There were an a$$load of American catholics fighting in Italy…”

Honestly questions like this come up because people like Cafferty have no idea what the military is about.

They have never served, no one they know has ever served, except for an uncle who they never liked anyway, so they have no concept of the ideals are that we hope to protect.

The conceept of honor for honors sake is foreign to them.

I have begun to despair that we can ever explain to these type of people why we even care.

Of course, if we turned it around and said “should Muslims be forbidden from volunteering in the armed services during times when we are at war with Muslims”, what do you think the populace would say?

I’ve been out of the AF for 5 years now, but I always thought that “against all enemies foreign and domestic” was pretty clear… if you don’t want to accept that the President and Congress can define an enemy differently tomorrow than they do today, then DON’T VOLUNTEER.

  6. Mr. Bingley says:

You know, lefty liberal idiots like Cafferty are always the first to scream about the “separation of church and state” yet here he is in fact advocating that one’s loyalty to one’s church should take preference over one’s duty to society as a whole and get you certain privileges and advantages.

    what an asshat.

  7. JeffS says:

    Meh. Another clueless idiot.

  8. Skyler says:

There are a lot of Muslims fighting alongside us in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not only Iraqis and Afghans, but Azerbaijanis and others.

Not all muslims are bad. The religion is bad mostly because it allows this terrorist, head chopping off, dismembering behavior and makes scarcely a peep in protest, but there are individuals and even nations that reject the murderers among them.

We should welcome the good muslims in our military. And the others we should treat with the contempt they deserve. Any muslim who can’t distinguish between murder and god deserves no protection.

Reminds me of a question that was asked right before we got to Somalia in 92 to some African American Marines if they could bring themselves to shoot a brother African? One response was “I’m not sure” but most were more like “Hell yes I can shoot them, not my brother.”

  10. mojo says:

Gee, that’s a toughie. I remember all the U.S. Lutherans that refused to fight German Nazis on co-religionist grounds, then there were the Zen Buddhists that the Japanese refused to clap hands with…
