…take this little quiz Diptera teased me with on Twitter, and then read the research they did on the results afterward.

Cripes.

The one warm glow is that all the Gorebal Warmering bullshit spread thick and heavy over the years hasn’t paid off a lick in elevated knowledge amongst our younguns as far as causation goes.

You’ll see what I mean.

    Wow.

    Less than one third knew that nitrogen is the most abundant gas in the atmosphere. I knew that in grade school.

    I got all of the questions right. I concede that I am a geek, but most of those questions were *basic* science, stuff that I learned in grade school, or high school.

    Some of the questions could have been answered by simply breaking apart the compound words. A few might require knowledge of current events (“fracking” is a new term to me, for example). None of them were obscure questions requiring training in some arcane field of science.

    So, a majority of people should be able to score at least 75% on this. If they had a decent education, that is.

    Yet the majority of people scored under that — 63%, by my count, probably a bit higher because the. The median scores are equally bad.

    Appalling, anyway you look at it.

    I note there was only one practical/applied science type question in there (the one about testing drug efficacy), and the 50-64yr olds dominated. Yay, again.

    The one that kills me is ALL the little 18-34 yr olds who should (by now) have SOAKED up the fact the CARBON DIOXIDE CAUSES GOREBAL WARMERING, of ALL teh science “FACTS” in teh quiz …and apparently haven’t.

    Message NOT received.
