Iran Test Fires Missile

White House considers writing a letter

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran successfully test-fired a long-range, improved Sejil 2 missile on Wednesday, state television reported, in an announcement that added to tension with the West.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the launch underlined the case for tougher sanctions against Tehran.

Al Alam, Iran’s Arabic-language satellite television, said the two-stage, solid fuel Sejil missile had a longer range than the Islamic Republic’s Shahab model.

Iranian officials have in the past said the Shahab 3 missile can reach targets up to 2,000 km (1,250 miles) away. Such a range would put Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf within reach.

I’m sure they are developing this missile for peaceful purposes.

Centrifuges.

Nuclear technology.

Long range missiles.

Glorification of martyrs.

What could go wrong?

You’re entirely too cynical. Iran only wants to bring the crescent to the moon. And to your neighborhood. And to Tel Aviv. This is not a weapon of war, it is a tool of a growing religion. How dare you think otherwise, you hater. You will not write such things once their missiles can reach to New Jersey. Or else your children will have their arms cut off. Someone so filled with hate like you deserves to feel the full horror of the love and peace offered by Islam.

Ah, it’s the “Peace Be Upon You” missile!

Until it hits, then it’s the “You Be In Pieces” missile.

  4. major dad says:

Yeah, those “tough” sanctions always do the trick.

  5. Yojimbo says:

“You Be in Pieces” Or the “Cry for Foreign Aid and Reconciliation Missile.”

With this administration, God help us.

I can imagine the White House letter would be something like this: “Dear Mahmood, how are you? I am fine. Actually more than fine – I would say I’m B-plus! Could you stop with the missle flinging? I have a real domestic crisis here with the health care bill and am really busy rounding up the herd of Cats (AKA Senate Dems) leaving me little or no time right now to send a more strongly worded letter to you. So if you could hold off any more actions until after the SOTU address, I would really appreciate it. I’ll owe you an extra special bow next time I see you. Take care, your friend Barry.”

There is no carrot that will persuade the Iranian government to stop its drive for nukes and missiles. There is no sanction short of war that will compel them to stop. When they get their nukes they will be in position to expand their existing war against the US as well as Israel, including terrorism. They will believe that they are beyond reprisal for any attacks their proxies make due to possession of nukes. They will also use them themselves at an appropriate time, either through missile strikes or terrorism. All this will happen unless the Iranian Ayatollahs are overthrown ASAP and some kind of halfway decent, consesual government replaces them.

The best thing for all right now would be for an Iranian Pinochet to arise and overthrow the mullahs before they provoke a nuclear war that will leave Iran as a glowing pile of radioactive wreckage, not to mention the damage the Iranians will do to others before they go down. Such a man would be the saviour of his country.

What part of “Death to the Great Satan” do the people in the highest positions of responsibility for the security of the USA not understand?

  8. Mr. Bingley says:

I think you’re exactly right, Michael. They want nukes, and they know that the West lacks the will to do anything other than lightly chide them.

    It’s disgusting…and terrifying.
