White House ponders a strike over Libya attack

By KIMBERLY DOZIER and RUKMINI CALLIMACHI

WASHINGTON (AP) – The White House, under political pressure to respond forcefully to the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, is readying strike forces and drones but first has to find a target.

And if the administration does find a target, officials say it still has to weigh whether the short-term payoff of exacting retribution on al-Qaida is worth the risk that such strikes could elevate the group’s profile in the region, alienate governments the U.S. needs to fight the group in the future and do little to slow the growing terror threat in North Africa.

Details on the administration’s position and on its search for a possible target were provided by three current and one former administration official, as well as an analyst who was approached by the White House for help. All four spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the high-level debates publicly.

Five weeks, five weeks have passed since the attack.

What a pathetic “leader.”

FIVE weeks…but not close enough to election day, that is.

  2. JeffS says:

Like hell they weren’t authorized to discuss this publicly. There are at least leads in that article to identify possible sources, or at least narrow the candidates who are “leaking” this. There would be more care about providing identifying details in the article if they were genuine leaks. No, instead, we are offered enough information to demonstrate the validity of the sources.

That’s because Obama and his flying monkeys know that they look really weak after such a delay, and after Hillary made Obama look even weaker.

It’s all just posturing for tonight’s debate, so that President Zero can look all presidential while trying to duck the responsibilities of being President.

    What a loser.

Remember Beirut early in their civil war? Somebody snatched a Soviet embassy worker. Two days later, the snatchers were found mutilated in the middle of a busy street. Nobody bothered the Rooskies after that.

Just my way of sayin’, “that’s how you get things done over there, Barack, sissyboy.”

  4. JeffS says:

    Works for me, Gary.

Still waiting for the Nobel committee to show some integrity and ask for their prize back.

Good thing I’m a patient sort.

Who is in charge of keeping government secrets? He needs to be beaten with a rad hose, then kicked in the balls.

O is simply being methodical…….or something.

    “leader”? What’s that?

Haven’t seen one yet. (Maybe Reagan intimidating Iran – but he failed elsewhere.) Doubt I will this election either. (And, yeah, I’m dissing both sides again.)
Still, as Insty says… syphilitic camels. Best of a bad choice. 🙁

Someday, maybe, I’ll be actually able to vote FOR someone. Instead of AGAINST someone. (Hasn’t happened since 1974, when I first voted. But, I keep hoping.)
