Shock: Menendez Asked Feds To Bail Out Donors

I mean, gosh, who’d’ve thunk it

WASHINGTON—Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey urged the Federal Reserve last July to approve an acquisition to save a struggling bank in his state. He didn’t mention that the bank’s chairman and vice chairman were big contributors to his political campaign.

Hey! He’s a busy guy! I’m sure it slipped his mind.

The chairman of First BankAmericano at the time of the letter, Joseph Ginarte, is a high-profile attorney with offices in New York and New Jersey. He has given a total of about $30,000 to Mr. Menendez and his political-action committee since 1999, according to federal records.

The vice chairman of the bank was Raymond Lesniak, a New Jersey state senator and local political heavyweight. He also has given generously to Mr. Menendez’s campaign coffers. In 2006, Mr. Lesniak held a fund-raiser at his home for the senator featuring former President Bill Clinton, according to news reports at the time.

I’m sure he barely knows these guys.

I think it’s time to crank up the “Sen. Bingley in ’12” campaign…

Lesniak is vice chairman of the bank? Who knew?

His State Senator webpage lists his occupation as “attorney” with a law firm that bears his name.

He chairs the Economic Growth Committee and is vice chairman of the Commerce Committee. I doubt that either of those committees has anything whatsoever to do with banks and the banking business.

Relax, folks. We’ve already registered you five, six times and you’ve already voted 10 or 20.

I burned the paperwork so I can’t give you an accurate count, but I personally want to thank each of you for doing your citizen duty. Just let me know where you’ll be buried so I can make sure you’ll still be heard.

We can replace the votes of all those high bracket people that fled to Florida. That should put the Bingster right over the top.

I was surprised and disappointed to learn that my dog was a registered Democrat. So was the dog.
