So “Father” and “Son” Get the Heave-Ho from Scripture

…in new Arabic and Turkish translations, in order NOT to offend Muslims…

‘Father’ and ‘Son’ Ousted from the Trinity in New Bible Translations

A controversy is brewing over three reputable Christian organizations, which are based in North America, whose efforts have ousted the words “Father” and “Son” from new Bibles. Wycliffe Bible Translators, Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) and Frontiers are under fire for “producing Bibles that remove “Father,” “Son” and “Son of God” because these terms are offensive to Muslims.”

Concerned Christian missionaries, Bible translators, pastors, and national church leaders have come together with a public petition to stop these organizations. They claim a public petition is their last recourse because meetings with these organizations’ leaders, staff resignations over this issue and criticism and appeals from native national Christians concerned about the translations “have failed to persuade these agencies to retain “Father” and “Son” in the text of all their translations.”

…For example, the verse which Christians use to justify going all over the world to make disciples, thus fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19) reads, “Cleanse them by water in the name of Allah, his Messiahand his Holy Spirit” instead of “baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Rev. Bassam Madany, an Arab American who runs Middle East Resources, terms these organization’s efforts as “a western imperialistic attempt that’s inspired by cultural anthropology, and not by biblical theology.”

…MUSLIMS who might be skeeved out postulating God did the nasty with Mary?

…There are some cases in which it can be shown that a word-for-word translation of these familial terms would communicate an incorrect meaning (i.e. that God had physical, sexual relations with Mary, mother of Jesus; not only does this communicate obvious wrong meaning, but can also give readers the impression that the translation is corrupt).

With what these people routinely do to each other during the course of any given day here on Earth in the NAME of their vile brand of inhumanity, and we should worry about what THEY mis-interpret in OUR religious texts? (Well, even when they’re not doing it deliberately.)

Oh, PISS OFF.

Father/Son/Holy Ghost, footnotes and be done with it, you candyasses.

That there is a prime example of dhimmification of the western civilization.

“Piss off” is way too kind. But you’re a lady, and I’m not a gentleman.

  2. Mr. Bingley says:

The asshattery runs deep, especially with these kind of statements calling this a “a western imperialistic attempt.”

Good god, it’s a complete surrender by the West, not an “imperialistic attempt”.

  3. Skyler says:

Muslims believe that the Koran should never be translated into other languages because a translation requires a distortion of meaning.

It looks like they insist on that distortion of meaning.

I can’t believe anyone who believes in the Bible could ever do something like this. I’m no christian, but I’m embarrassed for these people.

  4. Gary from Jersey says:

Just the latest shot at religion in the west by people who think they know better. Same with birth control in Catholic hospitals and all the other crap. Damn them.

  5. major dad says:

W.T.F.? Who cares what they think? We already know they want us dead. Screw them.

  6. aelfheld says:

Skyler, it’s not the Muhammedans insisting on the distortion of meaning but the supine soi-disant Christians pre-emptively surrendering.

  7. nightfly says:

Apparently they didn’t quite get around to translating verses like “If you are ashamed of Me before men, I shall be ashamed of you before God.” (Luke 9:26, paraphrase)

  8. Outspoken Red says:

This is seriously disturbing because it is being pushed not by Muslims but by Christian missionary Bible translation organizations. Apparently, other Christian organizations have been talking, arguing, and pleading with them for many years NOT to do this, but to no avail. There is a petition available, if you would like to sign it, plus more info in the links:

    GOTTA LOVE THOSE TEXANS!!!

Here’s “POLITICAL CORRECTNESS” – a Muslim buys eleven acres of land next to a pig farm (a family farm that has been in Houston a long time) and NOW WANTS THE PIG FARMER TO LEAVE!!?? That takes a lot of nerve! So what’s the pig farmer’s response to that….. PIG RACES DURING FRIDAY NIGHT PRAYERS!! Even the news crew is laughing.

  10. tree hugging sister says:

Lemme update you on the Pig Races, Syd. That story’s about 4 years old. Two years into the stand-off, the mosque owners came over with a rhetorical white flag and apologized. The Friday night pig races ceased, but a sign went up where the racetrack had been that sports a large cross and Star o’ David. The mosque site itself still only consists of a couple temporary buildings and port o’ potties.

Never quite took off like they were hoping it would.

Could have something to do with the first impression they made on the neighbors. I’m just guessing here. {8^P

ths, it truly is comforting to hear a story with a happy ending. I’ll think of this every time I have a BLT sandwich.

    Cheers.
