Some Households Save Gramma’s Silver, Some Save Grampa’s Stamps. In Casa de major dad, We Save

…t-shirts.

Some are brand new and timely, saved for their possible relevance later on (Remember a t-shirt with a certain Mouse in red, white and blue boxers, who had a middle digit and warm wishes extended for a certain country of Muslim origin? I’ve still got it.) Others are old, much worn and much loved. Saved just before their last fiber shreds: gently laundered and packed away for fond remembrance. Kinda like this one of major dad’s.

Yeah, it’s been 20 years, but I knew exactly where it was. And it stayed put.

Didn’t want to lay a hex. Just like we never watched a single Butler game during this whole, improbable run, but dang if we didn’t hit ESPN.com or Indy.com the second the score crawl said “F”. Ah, jubilation!

Now I’ve pulled it out, this Bulldog emblazoned talisman from the blanket chest. For this weekend. I think it’ll be alright.

I do want to pass something on to those great Butler kids, who get to play in that magnificent, incredible icon of the sport. It’s alright to talk about the Colts and your admiration for them. Understandable. But in this place and time, with who you are and what you’ve done?

I’d be praying to the Saints.

UPDATE: AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See above post.

Go Bulldogs. Like the Saints, they’re good enough to win without prayer. They’ll be playing the Mountaineers Monday night.
