My mother first overwhelms the `Master’ with thanks, and then absorbs herself in the adoration of the `Girl in the Hat.’ Then she sighs out `It should be called Diaphanit, if there is such a word. Ah! This is the last expression of modernity!

   I wonder what the source was? That must have been lifted from some actual 19th-century piece of writing.

   I wondered too, Doc. I googled bits of it and really didn’t come up with much.

   Other than some obscure reference to 1000 monkeys chained to typewriters…
