The Guy Who Scrubbed In Because an American Soldier’s Life Depended on a Neurosurgeon and He Happened to Be One?

He held the fort last night when the U.N. doctors buggered out.

Earthquake victims, writhing in pain and grasping at life, watched doctors and nurses walk away from a field hospital Friday night after a Belgian medical team evacuated the area, saying it was concerned about security.

The decision left CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta as the only doctor at the hospital to get the patients through the night.

…Sandra Pierre, a Haitian who has been helping at the makeshift hospital, said the medical staff took most of the supplies with them.

“All the doctors, all the nurses are gone,” she said. “They are expected to be back tomorrow. They had no plan on leaving tonight. It was an order that came suddenly.”

She told Gupta,

It’s just you.

And YOU are an amazing human being, Dr. Gupta.

Bless you.

  1. JeffS says:

    Dr. Gupta, ou da man!

    And as for this…..

Responding to the CNN report that Gupta was the only doctor left at the Port-au-Prince field hospital, U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky said Saturday that the world body’s mission in Haiti did not order any medical team to leave. If the team left, it was at the request of their own organization, he said.

I’ll take Dr. Gupta’s word over the United Nations any day. Because the UN is all about taking care of themselves first.

  2. JeffS says:

And that should be “you da man!”

  3. Skyler says:

I’ve heard this was a stunt by CNN. The field hospital relocated but no one was left behind.

In a disagreement between the utterly corrupt UN and the proven corrupt CNN, I am not sure which to believe.

Really I don’t much care. Both organizations are doing their best to undermine the America I believe in and they can both rot.

  4. tree hugging sister says:

Oh, Skyler, I hope with all my heart that’s not true.

  5. JeffS says:

I hope not, as well. But that would mean CNN is trying to discredit the United Nations. Or muscle the UN out of the way in the hopes of higher ratings.

And, for the life of me, I can’t see that CNN has the gonads to do that. Or the motivation, political or financial.

Certainly not in the middle of a humanitarian crisis like, where they don’t have to search for bodies to photograph (a la’ Katrina).

Occam’s Razor suggests that this is not a publicity stunt. Certainly not all of the facts are in.

But I am not surprised to hear that a UN team pulls out of an area for any security reason. Note how fast the United Nations pulled out of Iraq after their Baghdad HQ was car bombed.

So I’m still leaning towards the UN team pulling out, for whatever reason. I could be wrong. But that’s the way I’m going until I hear otherwise. Such as a retraction by CNN.

  6. Dr Alice says:

Incredible. Good for Dr. Gupta. I can’t believe CNN would pull a stunt like that simply because Gupta has been on their staff for years (IIRC) and I don’t see them marooning him to work all night by himself.

  7. Greg Newsom says:

It could be a publicity stunt,
Dr. Gupta seems to be too ethical and sincere to be in on it,,though. But, he has nailed to the BED Laura Ingraham and that other shinny blonde conservative-with the long hair and rich daddy.

  8. Skyler says:

What does “nailed to the bed” mean?

  9. Greg Newsom says:

I read somewhere he has had affairs with both of them.It
was on some site I read when he was going for Surgeon General.
