Saudi Facebook Campaign Calls for Men to Beat Women Drivers
A campaign on Facebook is calling for Saudi men to beat women who plan to drive cars in a protest next month, AFP reports.
“The Iqal Campaign: June 17 for preventing women from driving” advocates a cord be used to beat women who plan to drive. Women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia.
Some 6,000 people have “liked” the campaign on Facebook.
It was created in response to female activist Manal al-Sharif, who created a page calling for Saudi women to defy the driving ban on June 17.
The Facebook page, called “Teach me how to drive so I can protect myself,” was removed after more than 12,000 people indicated their support. The campaign’s Twitter account also was deactivated.

FB tends to be picky with freedom of speech stuff, but for FB to condone this is even beyond their standards.
I thought the FB people were supposed to be “liberal”.

Wonder if Facebook is going to apply their new ‘special key‘ rules to this bunch.
Nah, they’re totalitarians so they’ll get a pass.
It is unconscionable for Facebook or any other social media site to sponsor an organized appeal for such bigoted, vigilante violence against people who are exercising their legal rights. It’s no different than allowing the KKK to post an appeal encouraging the beating of any colored person who refuses to sit at the back of the bus. This must not be tolerated – I sent FB a message asking them to take the page down and hope many people will do the same.

Good, it’s about time they learned their places.
