Trustees: Penn State president removed, Paterno out immediately

Head football coach Joe Paterno and the university president have lost their jobs, effective immediately, over a child sex abuse scandal at Penn State, university trustees announced Wednesday night.

Any less would be unthinkable and unforgivable.

Unthinkable and unforgivable like…not bothering to find a ten year old last seen being sodomized in a shower by one of your football coaches.

They deserve public flogging and the stocks for a week. But good riddance to bad rubbish.

  2. Mr. Bingley says:

It boggles my mind that someone SEEING a 10 year old being raped in the shower would choose to…go report it to the coach instead of BEATING THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF THE SCUM BAG DOING IT.

    I just don’t understand that.

  3. Skyler says:

I’m with you Bingley. I can’t understand how anyone could react that way.

I can possibly understand, but not forgive, someone freezing at the moment and running out, but on a few minutes’ reflection any sane person should be calling the police.

And that Paterno didn’t urge calling the police or call the police himself suggests to me that he was probably doing the same thing.

In Afghanistan, the battalion that proceeded us in our Operations Area was a Penn State fan and he was also the guy who named all our Operations Boxes — small sections of land that we designated for control purposes.

One of our busiest Op Boxes was Op Box Joepa. Being from Texas, most of us assumed for several months that Joepa was an Afghan word and only halfway through the deployment did I realize that it was named after Joe Paterno.

Now the naming of Op Box Joepa seems appropriate. We were sent to Afghanistan to protect pederasty, a popular sport for Afghan men. In fact, we were instructed not to interfere if we here a boy screaming inside a house because he is probably just being raped by his uncle. If we interfere, so we were told, it would cause great embarrassment to the uncle.

So, apparently the officer who named Op Box Joepa chose a perfect name.

  4. Skyler says:

Of course I do know the difference between “here” and ‘hear.” Sorry about that.

  5. ricki says:

What Bingley said. And then call the cops and report the crime, tell them “I’ve already subdued the attacker for you.”

I’m just blown away by this. And I’ve lived my entire life on college campuses and have seen how important football becomes. Lots of shortsightedness at Penn until this story came out in the news.

  6. Gary from Jersey says:

Ditto, Mr. B. What kind of culture does Penn State live in that saving a child from that kind of abuse is less important than anything else?

  7. major dad says:

That he didn’t stop the rape and didn’t go directly to the police just goes to show how powerful the football coaches at Penn State were. The lawsuits they be a comin’…

  8. aelfheld says:

So he’s “absolutely devastated by the developments”. The rape of a child doesn’t concern him for nine years but the ‘developments’ (i.e. his loss of reputation and stature) does.

And this man has been held up as a “pillar of moral integrity“.

The post-firing riots don’t give me much confidence in the moral underpinnings of Penn State or the student body.

Is razing the place and sowing it with salt an option?

  9. JeffS says:

Maybe converting the campus into a parking lot would be more useful, aelfheld. Those rioting students need a solid smack from a clue-by-four.

  10. major dad says:

I read that earlier aelfheld, still rumor but, but if it turns out to even be remotely true this will be really bad and I mean really bad.

  11. tree hugging sister says:

The student body is a disgrace.

  12. The students were just fine when it was just Sandusky, weren’t they??

Damn good thing I don’t live near that effing school.

And yeah, Paterno is a criminal.

  13. JeffS says:

…this will be really bad and I mean really bad.

As in, raze the place, sow it with salt, and then turn it into a parking lot.

  14. nightfly says:

It’s disastrous. I too have no idea why someone wouldn’t go to the cops. However, I also have read that one grad assistant did go to the cops, and eventually the local DA didn’t file charges.

This is all quite sickening. And it didn’t just happen either. This is the sort of thing where bunches of folks made, by degrees, choices that sounded reasonable. They never noticed when they crossed the line because they kept re-drawing that line, justifying the next step by saying that it really wasn’t so far off from the prior one.

That’s an easy way to go to hell.

  15. Greg Newson says:

This is some crazy news. This was like eight years ago,and nothing has happened legally since? If it’s true, they should have taken the guy out to the parking lot and shot him. That’s what the Chinese did with the factory manager who added anti-freeze to toothpaste to sweeten it,which killed 5 kids in the US.-Just a thought.
